Standard of Referees this season has been nothing short of apalling. Inconsistent decisions, not protecting players, and getting obvious decisions wrong (e.g. Throw ins, offsides). How can they be getting worse not better??? Spoiling enjoyment of games.

Its bad whenthe crowd start chanting to bring Trevor Kettle on. He may be bad but at least he is consistently bad to both sides. Had he of been in charge of Bristol game I am confident at least 2 of their players would have seen red.

I completely agree. I didn't think it possible for them to get much worse but this season has proven me wrong. The FA should be embarrassed by the standards on show in the second tier of the English game. Like you say it is spoiling the enjoyment of the game.

I stopped caring after the Fulham game. Every home match there seems to be a dodgy 'decision' which affects the game against us. Scowen sending off, the penalty incident Saturday, Winnall's stamp, Winnall's elbow... Is to get themselves noticed? I like challenges so like I said, us playing against money and the referee gives me bigger satisfaction when we win.

I'd love to know why they are so bad, can't be that difficult, all it takes is

    1. Knowledge of the rules - if they don't know them they shouldn't be there
    2. Fitness
    3. Good eyesight
    4. Impartiality - if they're not then again, shouldn't be there

    Not rocket science is it?

    Any advance on these?

How about linesmen and fourth official who actually indicate a foul etc rather than just flagging after the referee has decided? The only time we ever seem to see a flag is when we score and are judged offside. Can't remember how many times linesmen have missed blatant offsides and fouls.

9 times out of 10 this is at the direction of the referee.

Ie. I (the ref) will make all decisions on fouls. You (lino) only indicate throws and corners etc.

Sad but true. And part of the discussion beforehand to show they are all on on side. Stopping the obvious one blows one way one indicates the other.

Unfortunately this makes the lino look completely **** scared to make a decision.

If they sacked that off and let all 3 make decisions then it might make them look more competent. But then it highlights complete incompetence if the do indicate separate ways.

    Agreed, almost redundant.

It was more like Homer Simpson that Jeremy Simpson. I agree he was very poor. Did he cost us 2 points?

I suppose they have to look like a team.

Last time I remember one making a decision was in the infamous Morgan/Hume game when Kozluck handled in the area and the ref didn't see it but the linesman gave it. Also a similar incident at the Richo a few years ago, again against us, gifting them a late equaliser.

Remember that handball. Linesman was in the other half wasn't he?

But yes it was designed to be making them a team.

Not widely known that referees dictate "terms" of the help.

But at times it makes them look rather indecisive

Kozluck was near the West stand front corner of the box an the linesman was in front of the East stand I think. To be fair, it was a pen and under the rules at the time, once he'd given it he had no option but to send Kozluck off.

On the other hand, can anyone remember a linesman giving us a pen? I certainly can't.

We will never know. Had he sent the guy off against Scowan first half we would have had to play for around 1 hour against 10 men, and we are not generally very good at that
Had he given the Penalty on Hourihane we may have missed it like we did the last one

So he could have secured 1 point for us?
