Going forward last night we were better than we'd been for a good few weeks. The build up and finish for our first goal, for example, was top notch. However, totally uncharacteristic defensive errors, both individually and collectively, meant we were losing a game at half time that we should've been comfortably leading. Players who have been performing so well defensively were suddenly making errors that hadn't been done before and Forest's finishing was on a par with ours from earlier in the season. Certain players seem to be getting targeted for criticism from last night's match and whilst it can be frustrating to read, it's also understandable after conceding five goals at home in a single game. The funny thing is, where were all these sneering, snobbish, condescending comments towards where we've brought our defenders from when we'd been notching up the clean sheets alately? They're exactly the same players, so where were these comments then? When we're winning, we win as a team, when we lose, we lose as a team. Hopefully, last night's defensive aberrations will be a one off , we can move on, start winning and playing the type of football we know these lads can produce. well do you think that perhaps its time to..... think about getting in one or two more seasoned players to show a bit more guile and leadership. Perhaps naivety is a bit of a problem. But as you know I always take these setbacks in my stride in a cool calm manner, but I do think its time for an old warhorse or two.
Re: well do you think that perhaps its time to..... I'm quite happy with our club policy on signings and hope it continues. I have every confidence in Hecky & the club to get us back to winning ways.
Key with us at home is getting in front and staying tight. Once we go behind we struggle because we only play one way, which is to get the ball wide and put crosses in. We're crying out for someone up front that enables us to mix it up. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
A differently styled option, you mean (ie target man)? I don't see a problem with that, mate. It'd certainly give the opposition an alternative problem to deal with.
Totally agree Big Lil Last night was a one off. We played some good football and were far better than Forest. We were beat last night by three of the best goals you will see at Oakwell this season. To add to this a silly little fit of temper caused us to play with 10men. This and Bree not getting back quick enough left us open on his side . I think this team and Hecky deserve a bit more support from one or two as they are not invincible A one off to forget and let's move on.
Bloody frustrating. We looked fantastic in that first half going forward but defensively we were a shambles. Where's Paul Futcher when you need him?
Also, after the match, an American gentleman asked me if I could give him directions to Barnsley city centre (much to the amusement of barnsley66 & Arabian Ian!). Definitely an evening to be flummoxed.
I bumped into a gang of Feyenoord fans on the train from Meafowhell who had come over for their game against Man Utd and we're coming to support us yesterday and Burnley today. Obviously Oakwell is very cosmpolitan these days.
Re: well do you think that perhaps its time to..... Me too and it's a policy that I think needs to maintained. If someone had given me this start to the season at the start of the season I'd have taken it. We've shown so much promise and played some lovely football. We're a joy to watch most of the time and people shouldn't forget that. We have goals in the side and a strong defence on its day... Which has in the main been for most of the season. Don't change the policy. If it's not broken it don't need fixing. One freak result doesn't mean we should change the whole damn way we operate. I do agree that we need a big lad up top however. This would give us options and I think it would be a real benefit to Bradshaw who to me is a keegan looking for a toshack.
Re: well do you think that perhaps its time to..... ....oh and ffs I've got people around me pining for 5 in midfield with 1 striker up top. The same people who were moaning about 451 and only playing 1 striker up top. Football fans!!! There is no logic to the way we all think at times.
Thank you, kind sir. Your comments are very much appreciated. However, because of them, my head will soon be as big as my belly (although people are well within their rights to argue against that!).
Fully agree, everyone's learning at the same time and if we'd the option of playing white and hammill together week in, week out I reckon that's as much experience as we need and another attacking option. I'd like to see this squad together with a bit of tweaking in 2 years time, it could be a very solid outfit
We have to work at our discipline that's for sure. The high foot for the free kick for their first, the stamp by Watkins and the bodycheck for the penalty not attempting to play the ball were all blatant as they come.
Ahhhh! Men & women in their 40's? They were sat in West Stand at back int Ponty corner! Wondered why we'd attracted a Dutch audience
In all fairness, I'm easily confused these days. I've never been the sharpest knife in the drawer, but now I've noticed this even more alately.
