Is it not the case that Castro was an angel and a devil rolled into one? Depending on which side you were on it was good or bad.....

    Who wrote "Cuban history"?

There are many academic non partisan papers on Cuba you can research if you are really interested. I'd agree that Castro did some things that were bad after all change I'd painful.

Soz don't understand the last sentence.

Brings me back to Hamlet, does Castro.

"He was a man, take him for all in all,
I shall not look upon his like again"

    Remarkable chap.

Cuba pre Castro was corrupt and essential run by the US mafia. Castro slapped the USA in the face and the Yankee Doodle Dandies didn't like it. They had trade embargoes which they imposed by bullying countries like the UK. The USA still has military bases on Cuba after the revolution. It wasn't an idyllic paradise before Castro took over and he did give the people education and health services which they would never have got before.

He always fought for social justice.

Except when he was throwing gays in concentration camps.

Is there a difference between a right wing dictator like Pinochet and a Communist Dictator like Castro .

Corbyn wanted one arrested and tried and the other he hails a hero.

For me they both committed crimes against humanity

He was a strong man and he had to be. The Mafia hated him and pressured the CIA into threatening his life and the independence of his country. At the time there wasn't a despotic regime in the world that wasn't funded by the USA in their efforts to isolate Russian communism. Essentially his revolution was nationalist, but denied support from the west and needing economic help, he had no alternative, but to turn to Russia and China. He deposed the traditional Caribbean/South American system of controlling families and their acolytes pocketing all the wealth and used it for health and education. He wasn't a perfect man and as all unopposed politicians he had too much power and he abused it in the maintenance of that power. The test of a leader is how he is perceived by his people in his own country and that is becoming clear in the nine days of mourning.

That depends on your standpoint. For some on the BBS anyone on the left, regardless of what they do, is a hero fighting for social equality but anybody right of centre is an evil spawn of Satan.
