My father, Derek Taylor, formerly of Shafton, passed away yesterday at the age of 91.

He was a staunch supporter of The Tykes all his life and I believe that he visited this site regularly. We are currently organising a Humanist Funeral for him and will be calling into the club shop this week to buy a scarf to adorn his coffin.

Do the club still allow ashes to be spread at Oakwell, and if so, who do I contact to make the necessary arrangements?

I was a considerable source of embarrassment to him, being a staunch Leeds United supporter and I can't help thinking that, somewhere, he is laughing his head off because the timing of his death prevented me from attending the Rotherham match yesterday..................

    My sincere condolences

You'd be better talking to the club when you call into the club shop. From memory I don't think they allow it but could be wrong.

They do allow it but not on the pitch as it kills the grass!

sincere condolences to you and your family......

I lost my Dad back in 1995 and it still hurts like hell.... my mother passed 6 years ago and that too is still a very raw wound in my heart. I know the dreadful dark place you and your family are in right now and can only offer my love and prayers to you all. Be strong fella its hard but try.

As for the ashes question, do be aware that they replace the pitch/turf every season. You might like to think about having a "Brick in the wall" as a memory to your Dad. Ask at the shop about the brick thing , they will advise you fully.

    my pleasure mate

glad I was able to help in some small way. My Dad was a miner for many years and my Mam worked as a cleric in the Houghton Main pit (and when the disaster hit it too).... My Mam kept my Dads ashes by her bedside till she died and then her ashes were mixed with his and spread in the gardens of the bungalow they both so adored.... but as a memorial for them I had two of the miners 'tallies' made up and placed in the memorial gardens at the big pit museum... it seemed fitting and I had a memorial to them too. Some say that doing things like this are sentimental rubbish, but I worshipped my Mam and Dad and so it means such a lot to me.... I feel that you also worship your Dad and so to have a memorial to him at a place he loved is totally fitting, again my condolences and again I urge you have strength......I am sure your Dad would have said much the same to you too.

No not allowed to scatter ashes on pitch due to players religious beliefs, I'm sure we got offered to scatter around perimeter when my dad passed away. I've thought of putting ashes in a rocket and and letting it off over Oakwell.

Nothing to do with religious beliefs but the fact that ashes burn the grass. You can scatter the ashes round the track but not on the grass. Ask at reception. It's a woman who deals with it but I can't remember her name. The ground shuts at about 4pm so you can start anytime up to 3pm.

I'd be very surprised if that were the reason. I wouldn't imagine the players either care, or have a say

My dad passed away in 2004 and we spread his ashes on the verge of the pitch (behind the goal line) in front of the Ponty End. Not allowed on the playing surface for H&S reasons.

You should buy a brick on the wall of fame we also did that for my dad, it was £25 (may be more now) and you might pay extra depending how many letters you have on it.

Go to the official web site and send an email to the contacts address and they will sort you out.

    Sorry for your loss mate.

My father was cremated this week and I thought it may amuse you on here to know that his coffin was draped with a Barnsley scarf and topped with the match programme from 14th September 2010 when Barnsley beat Leeds 5-2.

I'm sure he is still laughing about that, somewhere.
