To me it would be great if the Barnsley developed a strong link with Shaw Lane FC, using them as a real cost effective development squad to toughen some of the young players and give them competitive match experience. Let's face it with a bit of luck and a few quality players Barnsley could have a development base in the conference.

Seems a no brainer instead of sending players to random lower league clubs. Definite benefits for both clubs.

Players need a better standard of football than what Shaw Lane can offer.

Exactly my post, with a bit of help they could be a conference side. I would argue that for a young player playing a competitive match in that league is more beneficial than say a behind closed doors development team match.. It would be far more cost effective for the club as well to develop this kind of relationship with a local club and give options for player development. Much better than say going out on loan to a random club where they might not be played.

Just can't see the club making any links with them, the club were prepared to take them on regarding name of Barnsley Town.

The naming was a touchy thing yeah but if something could be worked to the best interest of 2 clubs then why not.

    1. They are the Mk Dons of Non-League football after annexing Barugh green JFC and moving them across town.
    2. Their owner is a Wednesday fan who has the team playing in the same kit design and colours of SWFC.
    3. We already have a link with Frickley
    4. They are no where near high enough in the football pyramid.

Aren't they owned by a Wednesday fan?

No, I don't like how they conduct themselves and neither do most people I know within local football. Like you say were linked with frickley.

    **** them.

I'd sooner not see us have any links with them.

So some say they play nowhere near a high enough level?? Yet say we have links with Frickley.. Shaw Lane will most probably be in the same division as Frickley next season and have a higher standard of players, will end up progressing into a higher league unlike Frickley.

Other people bring some sort of childish argument about their chairman being a Wednesday fan...and? I thought Frickleys chairman was a Leeds fan.. So your logic fails yet again.

It's a great opportunity for the club to explore for footballing and probably financial reasons.

It would never get me selecting to watch them instead of Barnsley regardless of what division they may rise to but the reasons to ignore them to me are simply childish..

Would they want to be linked to us? They may think it takes away their own identity (whatever that is!)

Plenty of good reasons have already been mentioned in the thread. I'd not send any of our players to a non league club on loan because even if they bang in goals or help clean sheets it's not going to make them a championship level player up against a lot of part time football players. If we can't get them a league two side like the pair at Grimsby we might as well continue to develop them ourselves.

The more any local team not just them move up the leagues, the more competition when it comes to money. With our ticket prices around the thirty quid mark how many if Shaw Lane, Penistone Church or Athersley got to say conference level would go watch them instead for a much cheaper price?

We have sent Jack Cowgill to Braintree town Conference, Jake Charles to York another conference side...

I would argue that playing non competitive football for years stuck in a development side is no replacement to getting real match experience.. Shaw Lane are the only club likely to get to say the conference. I doubt real Barnsley fans would up sticks and heads to watch them instead of Barnsley regardless of the division, surely that's not how being a fan works lol..

Also you say plenty of good reasons have been mentioned... which ones? Their chairman being a Wednesday fan maybe? If that's how it works we would never have made the premier league under Wilson the Wedensday fan.. Or should we get shut of all the players in the squad who were not boyhood Barnsley fans.. I reckon Hecky might have to get his boots out again lol.
