Just reading the BBC paper reviews and the Guarian headlines with the latest victim of this abuse - the paper names Derek Bell - is this the former BFC player?

A horrible subject, and a horrible series of events.

But that article by David Conn is absolutely beautifully written. No exaggerated condemnation of the abuser - just a very lucid and straightforwardly written account of this poor man's story, which says it all. David has in the past written some terrific stuff on football finances and also on the Hillsborough story. He's a first rate writer.

I like your tribute to the notoriously bad spelling in the Grauniad......

I wasn't even entered for it when I was 16, I did it in 6th form when all my mates were doing "Use of English" O level. I got grade 6.

Not the same Derek Bell, but if memory serves me right, "our"
Derek Bell was in the papers back in the day.

Something to do with a domestic incident and he was said by the reporter to have "volleyed" his wife.

    Does anyone else remember it?

I don't buy a paper any more but I do get "The Fiver" email from the Grauniad. If you've not heard of it, it's a humorous football email which arrives at tea time-ish monday-friday. Back in the day, used to read the Guardian and The Independent.

    Oh dear.

Smear the people you disagree with, another left-wing tactic.

Gloria, take a look at a clip from Sky News in which Owen Jones flounces off a paper review with Julia Hartley-Brewer. Hilarious!

And since you mention Guardian columinst Polly Toynbee, hypocrite to a tee.

    - Polly Toynbee today attacks Theresa May’s grammar school plans, arguing that segregation by social class is “irrational” and claiming grammars add to “splits and divisions” in society. She has some front. Polly herself failed her 11-plus and attended the independent Badminton School. Earning £110,000-a-year at the Guardian meant she was able to send two of her children to private school as well. Today Toynbee writes that “inequality is monstrously unfair… it means birth is almost always social destiny”. Some children are evidently more equal than others. Is there a bigger hypocrite in the grammar schools debate?

There is no bigger hypocrite anywhere in the world than Toynbee. How the hell she has elevated herself to a position where she deigns to tell people how they should think & behave is beyond me. Horrendous individual.

Never heard of her and I read the Guardian so that's quite an impressive achievement on my part.
