...... of a couple of recent posts.

I asked for Family tree help, as people had posted they were happy to explore. I received some great help and have made some progress for the first time in years.

I then posted a cryptic message about changing name by deed poll.

Basically, the two posts were linked. I have no idea who my Grandfather was, who I ultimately take my surname from. I came to the conclusion that he was just some random wartime bloke who did the dirty on my Grandma, God Bless her, so at the ripe old age of 50, i decided I was going to perhaps change my surname to hers. Anyways ........

Thanks to some decent chaps on here, I have potentially made some progress. To help me continue though, I need to try decipher the image below (or attached, depending how you are reading). I am pretty sure the bottom bit is easy - 7887414. Its the bit above. Its some sort of regiment / service number. I used to believe it was RTR (Royal Tank Regiment). Or maybe TR? (Training Regiment). Or maybe one of you kind souls see something more obvious? I am quite open to the idea that they are literally false details, which proves perhaps he did do the dirty .....

    As always, thanks in advance.
