1) We cannot afford to sell to Leeds or Sheffield clubs because it greatly undermines the confidence the fans have in Barnsley - especially in areas where there is competition for support 2) We get top dollar for them - hopefully the days of selling young highly talented players (e.g. Hirst) for just £250k have long gone. 3) We don't have a clearout sale to the extent it effects the success of the team. And this obviously applies to Winnall and all the other players at the club
Letting him go for £500k to a local rival no better than us is a sign of total lack of ambition and an insult and I'll read it as such.
We shouldn't sell to play off rivals. Strengthening their play off push by undermining our own. I don't believe we will either.
It's going to take a big number 10 and 6 zeros to soften the blow of selling to a local. And that's not going to happen...
I'm not sure those that try to balance the books see it that way. They should, but history has shown they do not.
The only way we sell someone like Winnall in this situation is if a) our finances are worse then we think so taking 500k now is preferable to nothing. or b) Winnall has requested permission to speak to whomever and standing in his way is not going to benefit him or the team.
Stones, Mawson, Holgate, £6 million promotion kitty, increased ticket prices, more STs sold, Average attendances up over 3,000. What's to balance?
Sadly no one here really knows the ins and outs of the club's finances. On the surface it appears we are rolling in it. If we are then why are there rumours of selling one of our better players for 500k? I honestly think Winnall is worth around 2-3m if he had 2 years left on his contract. He does not. So i can see why clubs would entertain 500k. He has no pace. That is a huge red flag when clubs are looking for a striker. Lack of pace can be overcome if you have a great football brain and first touch ( like a Sherringham) but a player like Winnall will always have a low ceiling. That ceiling is even lower when there's 6 months left on his contract.
I don't understand your first few lines, you go on to answer it yourself. We know how much Stones cost, the sell on, we know what we sold Holgate and Mawson for, PC confirmed ST sales, we know the price of those, we know the average attendance, we know the cost of tickets. It's not too hard to guess, we've hardly gone out and signed million pound players on 10k a week since Wembley so I'd guess the books are pretty healthy at the minute. It's also been stated by PC that we don't need to sell.
I was honestly thinking the second option today on the way to uni. The only way we would sell for such a price is if Winnall's kicked off and the board have thought '**** it, £500k is better than **** all' and he may not be arsed for the rest of the season. I doubt it but that's my only reasoning.
That has to be the only reason for it. Patrick has said before we don't need to sell and wouldn't entertain bids so that's the only option as far as I can see.
The three red lines remain. And I'm sure many others have those views. I hope (fingers crossed) that Patrick Cryne has now come to realise that these three red lines are what Barnsley fans want with regard to players leaving the club. Like all other clubs - we all realise players will be sold at some point.
£2-3m for the championships 6th top scorer in January from a club that doesn't need to sell, what decade is this?
You'll lose £500k in fans just starting to go again that can't be arsed if the club isn't showing ambition.
That's right And especially if one of our main competitors bought that player so in affect showing that they had more ambition than us.
Probably shouldn't have had a third of the season without replica shirt sales then on the back of a feel good factor of 2 Wembley wins and a promotion with a high scoring team
His goalscoring stats on Championship suggests more than 2-3 million with two years contract tbh. I don't think we have to sell even though they may have triggered an alleged clause. However the clubs policy on getting these players to sign these players is a promise if the do well we don't stand in their way. This could cause a bit of dissent in other players ,Watkins etc . My own view is not to sell but I also thought we wouldn't come without Fletcher , Brownhill , Issgrove, etc so what do I know.
