Unusual subject I know but: I switched supplier on 15/11/2016 with a credit of £303 and haven't received a refund. Is this usual? I hear there is an Energy Ombudsman but don't want to be too premature. Advice appreciated.

Have you contacted your old supplier to ask about it?

The credit you quote - have you received a final bill, or was this your credit pending a final bill?

And when you say switched on 15/11/16 - was this the confirmed switch date, or the date you initiated it? (It takes generally 4-6 weeks but often stretches to 8, especially over Christmas and new year).

I'd confirm supply with your new supplier (if you have gas as well as electricity ensure they have switched both fuels), then just ring the old supplier with your account details from a bill and ask for final account settlement. Though they should and do sort this automatically. It's possible your switch has stalled or been appealed (unlikely as they only do this in the case of high debt, you cay you have plenty of credit). Who were you with?

Energy ombudsman at this point would be hugely premature unless you've already done all of that and contacted the previous supplier a few times since - and even then, we aren't talking huge amounts of time in reality.

I recently switched from SSE to white rose energy, apparently a not for profit organisation for Yorkshire residents, and I've had both of my refunds from sse (they bill the fuels separately), though there was a delay in the electricity switch.

Archaic as it seems, its unlikely you'll get it sorted online and without the pain of a phone queue by the sounds of it.

Oh and another thing, did you pay by direct debit?

If you did, and have cancelled it, that would delay your refund too as if it was still active they'd send the funds straight back to your bank account. If you cancelled it, and they didn't know, it would be a bounced refund and they might even have tried a few times to send it without success

I've just switched from first utility, they refunded over payment within 14 days by direct debit.
