So taking it all with a big pinch of salt.

What I do know is that when he scored the two goals in two minutes against Walsall in the play-offs, the feeling was beyond amazing. A once in a lifetime experience of pure elation taking over. I also know he was one of, if not the best, goal scoring striker we've had since I've been watching Barnsley. Not the best player by any means, but he scores goals and goals win games.

Maybe the lad is a complete lovely person, maybe not, I don't know and I don't really care. He's a football player who played for my team, he's not my friend. As a player for my team he was a good one, he tried hard, he scored goals and he's given me some fantastic memories. I thank him for that, with total sincerity, he was great to watch. All the rest doesn't matter to me.

I hope the replacement turns out to be better than Winnall, and, considering the quality we've brought in over the last couple of years, I've every reason to believe he will be. Onwards and upwards.

Nicely put. The best summary of the situation that I've read. I echo a lot of those thoughts.

I agree - he did a good job for us - let's wish the guy well.

I've heard plenty of complaints about Winnall as a footballer and as a person.

He missed loads of chances - yes he did, but he got enough chances converted to be a 20 goal a year striker - we've wanted on of those for years.

He's a flawed individual who puts himself before his club - we're all flawed and we'd all do the same.

I don't really care about who said what to whom.

Lad's done well for us and now he's set for life. His career now is of absolutely no interest to me (I'd be hoping he got hit by a bus if he'd gone to Bramall Lane, though) but he was a reliable goalscorer when he played for us.

He served us well, owed us absolutely nothing, and had the same amount of loyalty I'd have if someone - anyone - offered to quadruple my wages.

Brilliant for us. I wish him well (as soon as he leaves Wednesday). The bitterness reflects badly on us as does the hypocrisy. What person in their mid 20s would turn down money that could change their life.

At long last a sensible thread about Sam.

Absolutely............like death and taxes, players come and inevitably they go. Gave us some fantastic moments, no axe to grind with him, from a club perspective all I hope is we received decent money for him and get as good if not better replacement.

As you know, Sam was a big favourite of mine from the moment he first signed for us. He was a quality, dependable, goal scoring striker for the team and provided us with some memorable moments. I just hope we don't have another forty year wait before we find our next 20 league goals in a season striker. Otherwise I'll miss it, having shuffled off this mortal coil some years previously!:D
However, he's now gone and I'll continue to give my full backing to the remaining strikers (along with anyone the club might bring in).

agreed but if he has been saying our fans are **** maybe he wants to think back to when we beat sheff utd at their ground and i think he scored the winner and at the end he was practically in tears at our fans singing his name.

we took him from the lower leagues and turned him into what he is now and gave him the platform for success. He should never forget that.

Good luck to him - if he ends up playing in the Premiership I'll be pleased for him. (As long as it's not for Wednesday...).

He helped to put us back in the Championship, played some entertaining football, and when my lad was a mascot Sam was great with him.

    Good bye and good luck.

Yeah - one that could echo a Sheff U fan' s view of Ched Evans.

As long as you're committed on the pitch, who gives a toss what you're actually like?

That's all we fans should concern ourselves with. Whether they perform for us. Their character off it is neither here nor there.
