We have a Windows 10 laptop and a Windows XP computer.
I'd like to send files from the lapdog to the XP wirelessly.... is that possible and if so , how? A special software or programme?
I could still use my usb stick to copy and then put on to the XP but is there a wireless way of doing it. I've looked on Google and it goes on about setting up home networks, or using the sharing files feature, but I'm bit reluctant to start changing settings that if they don't work I will have forgotten how to put them back.
    Ta.

You could always install a free FTP server on one of them and PUT or GET files from the other. That way if it goes t*ts up then all you have to do is uninstall and you're back where you started.

There is an FTP server under IIS (Internet Information Services) and I remember having to set it up back in the early 2000s (on Win2000, NT and XP) for a supplier broadcasting system when I was at Jag, so that would be another option. Obviously it would involve changing settings which you would have to back out if it went wrong. I don't recall it being at all complicated though.

Onedrive. Google Drive. Office 365. Email. Bluetooth. Home Sharing.

All viable options. Is there a lot of data to shift?

If it's just a one off batch of files 'WeTransfer' works too.

Quickest way is probably to share a folder on the XP machine and find its IP address. Then from the windows 10 computer use \\ipaddress\sharename and enter your username and password and it should open the folder in explorer. You can then copy the files across.

The Cloud solutions (Dropbox, OneDrive, etc) keep a copy on the Cloud as an intermediate step, so its fine for most stuff but don't store bank details or your personal photo collection on there! :)

If they both have bluetooth just make sure it is switched on on both machines (Settings-Devices-Bluetooth) and make sure 'Allow Bluetooth devices to find my computer' under 'more options'. That way you should be able to share move files without having to upload and download via the internet and without having to setup a network.
