"Paul Heckingbottom, the Barnsley manager, is waiting to see if players such as James Bree, Conor Hourihane and Marc Roberts are sold before the transfer deadline. If the trio all depart he could be open to a move down the M1." Is this just lazy journalism or could there be some truth in it? Not necessarily that he would go to Forest (he could get a much better job) but that he might leave if the sales continue...
No matter how much he loves the club, he's not gonna tarnish a career he wants to stay in long term at somewhere that keep on selling its assets and not bringing in any replacements.
Of course there could be some truth in it, if not Forest then I'll bet other clubs are looking at the excellent job he's done at BFC and he will be on their radar. While I understand (reluctantly) we are going too have to sell our prize assets as that's the path we have chosen, the frustrating thing is we don't at the moment seem to be reinvesting any money back in the playing squad other than supplementing it with loan signings.
I'd be surprised. Didn't their proposed takeover fall through recently? They're hardly chucking money at it. Hecky is at the club he loves, who also gave him his chance in management. He knew what he was in for when he signed up. Selling players on for profit is the club's business model now. Just because a few doom mongers on the BBS are moaning that we haven't yet replaced a couple of players who we haven't officially sold yet, it's not all bad.. We're 8th.
Don't think Hecky would go there, and be treated to the sound of scab from all our juvenile supporters when he returned.
Whilst there is no doubt he would prefer to be at Barnsley - and I cant really see Forest being a better bet than us at the moment, and I am sure he knows the model requires selling players I think the expectation would be one or 2 players per window not half a team. So far its one good striker and almost certainly one decent full back - we can handle that. If (and its definitely an if) we lose 4 or 5 of our best players this window I think he will be seriously tempted to look elsewhere whilst his stock is still high. Once we start falling down the table - and we will if we sell Connor, Roberts and another first team regular eg Watkins or MacDonald he starts to look a less good manager and the oppertunities will start to disappear
He won't go to Forest in my opinion, I just don't think he will see it as career progression but he is ambitious and as things stand he will be able so see the play-offs that are in touching distance softly drifting away. I honestly think that we have a golden opportunity to progress and if we chuck it away, for whatever reason, it will hurt and frustrate him as both a manager and a fan. If he can't see us ever making progress then he want to go to a club where progress is more likely.
Since last week he has tripled his work load by the sounds of it. For some reason I don't think we are paying him extra are we. Wouldn't be surprised if he leaves first chance he gets. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just rolling some details into a brief sound bite, nowt wrong in that. Does though touch on the danger of selling the team from underneath Hecky. Why should he allow his own career trajectory to hit a downward slant over badly handled transfers and contract negotiations? Not that Forest is the answer, far from it...
Agree with this, not many people would put up with some of the sh*t he's put up with recently! A lot on here are taking it for granted he will stay as "he's one of our own" etc but I wouldn't be surprised to see him move on!
This the problem with good players being sold at such a critical time. Here we are after such a brilliant Saturday back in the dumps fearing what's going to happen next. Bree I can understand being sold - but for the rest no - not at this time.
Forest are a basket case, so I cant see him going there... but that doesn't mean to say if one of his old clubs like Norwich came a calling, then who knows..
