Where have all the fans gone? In 1948 over 21,000 came to watch us play Plymouth Argyle. Beating in mind that no women went to matches in those days, and that the population of the borough has increased, it would seem that football has lost its attractiveness from the 50s onwards.

Would imagine its a combination of increased prices, higher competition from recreational activities, change in social practices, and less disposable income spent on recreation.

Plus some feckers go and support Leeds and Wednesday for some reason!!

it was 1 shilling 3 pence to get in in 1948, average uk wage was 8 pounds a week or 1920 pence , so one shilling and 3 p ,is 15p making the cost of football was less than 1 percent of your wage, its 23 quid to get in now so we would all have to be on 2300 pounds a week for it to equate , sadly im not as are most, hence football is too expensive to watch for working man in 2017, but we do cos were all reds arent we

Post war Britain mate. It was a boom time for everything, and the good people of Britain had been starved of normality. I could be wrong but I think the football league was suspended during WW2 as well so people were chomping at the bit.

Another thing to consider was that football was cheap, and players were on nowt a yard.

The price of admission to average weekly wage percentage now is much higher than when I first went in the late 70s, so it will have been even better back then.

This. Some very quick calculations (I don't even have a *** packet on me) showed that the equivalent price today would be well under a fiver.

It's gone from a good way to spend a couple of hours with your mates if you've nothing else on to something that needs to be a pretty major hobby.

Don't forget in those days no one had a TV...if you wanted to watch any sport you had to go to the match .
The 1954 Rugby League Challenge cup final replay between Halifax and Warrington at Odsal Stadium Bradford , had an official attendance of 103,000 , unofficially as many as 120,000 .

this season we have averaged just under 14,000 at home so far

That's for league games. Now considering the economic climate and the amount of other teams in our area and the advent of sky TV live streams etc then in my opinion I feel that's pretty good. Also we have one of the best away followings in this division.
