I'm trying a service called CloudFlare to protect and speed up the forums, which should improve page loading times and sharply reduce the number of active spammers. You may get a challenge page before you are granted access to the site. If you see this, and most won't, you can still access the forum by passing the captcha form. You can also send a message through the challenge page to request whitelisting of your IP address. Only a small number of forum members will see the challenge page by the way and its there to stop automated bots from accessing the site. The challenge page will appear if there are indications that your machine is infected with a computer virus or malware. The best thing to do is to run an anti-virus scan on their machine as a precaution. By the way, there are sometimes false positives with the data, but it is most common when the visitor is coming from a shared network like an office, college network or coffee shop. What this means is that although their computer isn't infected, someone else on the same network does have an issue.
Re: Performance of site... Tyring something new... Oh and what I actually meant to ask in that post was let me know if you see any issues using the site. Thanks. It should be up and running at some point on monday.
Have you thought about having a whip round to upgrade to VBulletin V5 Gally? I use it in two sites and it's fast and very responsive - wouldn't change the look and feel either (which everyone likes)
Re: Gally. Re whitelisting.... Got straight on with no issues but am not using VPN at present. Is there any issue with whitelisting where people like me abroad use VPN servers in UK (I use HMA) when my actual IP is used? Never had an issue before so wondered if the new enhanced? security will cause any potential issues since HMA uses different servers and IP addresses automatically to load balance their traffic? Answer is probably no but just checking since I use VPN often to encrypt traffic so I dont forget when I use, for example, internet banking.
Re: Gally. Re whitelisting.... Doesn't look like it has fully moved over yet. I'm not sure how it will behave in that instance so let me know if you have any issues.
I've thought about it before but it seemed to be lacking a lot compared to V4 (they basically rewrote it didn't they?). Was thinking that Xenforo might be a better option if we moved but it doesn't do threaded posts. I assume V5 does but haven't looked recently. Any chance you could PM me the sites you look after so I can take a look?
Brilliant, thanks Paul. If it wasn't for this and Babestation, I'd have zero contact with the outside world...
I'm having particular problems with this thread especially! In as much I don't understand any of it. Is the new thing Gally is trying turning threads into gobbledygook?!?
I'm pretty sure that all support for threaded posts was completely removed with v5 with a firm answer of it will never be reintroduced given by the bulletin developers.
Look, cut all the wordy bollocksy smart arse gobblydegook.... will the feckin thing work now ? (The alternative of having to watch The Midwife is driving me crackers)
It seems inconsistent to me - some of the time the pages are loading quickly, but others its still taking forever, and I am still getting Server busy/Site down for maintainence messages every so often. Is it just me or are others seeing the same thing This is the error message - probably get it around once per 10 clicks [h=1]Service Temporarily Unavailable[/h] The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

Apache Server at bbs.barnsleyfc.org.uk Port 80

Much better for me, but we have not had any high usage days since the change, when the team is playing. Tonight will be the big test.
