He was brilliant for us last season but he just doesn't seem with it this season. The step up in quality may just be too much for him! Can see him being put on the transfer list at the end of the season.
I think we were better with Hammill than Kent (works hard but no end product) If you're looking for a poor performance, i think today's has to go to Jones, didn't want the ball.
Agreed regarding Jones, on most occasions he turned and passed the ball back taking the safe option! Hammill was at fault for Brighton's second and lost the ball on pretty much every occasion!
Can't really sub a sub based on performance as that would be as bad as his haircut. Should have equalised at 1-0 then a little later hit another off target. His passing was badly off too. He's not going to reach his only ever consistent championship form which was with us many clubs and many years ago.
I can't comment too much as I haven't seen many games but I have been thinking about Adam Hammill recently in light of the activities during the transfer window. Undoubtedly his impact on last season was for all to see and I'm sure like many fans I was delighted and surprised when he signed an extension in the summer. I would surmise that he is the highest earner at the club and I would say - albeit from second hand information - that his performances this season do not merit that. 30 apperances (17 starts, 13 subs) 3 goals 0 assists 1 red card He's basically started only 50% of our league campaign. He is the elder figure in this team and I would expect him to be central to the teams success. Yet it seems he is a peripheral figure and I don't think that a club with our budget in this division can afford to have their highest earning players not contributing. Looking at his history of transfers you have to ask the question does he want it enough? He signed a two year deal in the summer and it appears he has lost the hunger and desire that was for all to see when he returned last season. Or is he just not good enough?
Maybe time to look at a positional change for Adam. He is our adopted son and I suspect our famed team spirit comes from him. I'm not sure his lack of pace can be disgused on the wing but his end product can still outstrip Kent's most of the time.
I think he's struggling with not starting every game - a proper run in the team might see him get some form back. He can still put in a quality ball or create something out of nothing
I think people are possibly underestimating things he may bring to the team off of the pitch. He can offer great advice and be a mentor to the youngsters (pretty much the whole team) that we have here. They need someone a bit more experienced in the dressing room and Adam can give that. Plus of course, whenever he's on the pitch there's always that belief that he can create something out of nothing. He had a couple of shots that didn't come off but at least he had them!
Agree, in and out of the team won't help him with form. Still think he's our best winger, but he plays on left and is asked to cut in and shoot, and scoring like that is far harder than he found it in league 1. If was on the right, whipping crosses in to Bradshaw and Watkins think he would get a lot more assists and look more dangerous. Devaney didn't have blistering pace but was a good champ winger. Hammill is far better in my opinion. id have Kent down left, Hammill down right and Watkins up top. But Hecky and coaches know far better so I'll trust that the 11 they send out each week are the best 11 to get a result that week.
He hasn't lost the desire, not at all, and I think he's a big character in the dressing room which can be priceless but it is fair to say he's struggled this season.
That's a fair point and begs the question why Kent with a similar record keeps starting given one won't be seen for dust come May? Is it a simple matter that Kent is fitter/sharper? I don't think he's better, certainly not consistently so anyway.
His cross on his left foot yesterday was class. Probably should have scored but at least he was there. He's definitely good enough and his attitude is first class.
I agree, he had a fine game at Fulham, unlucky not to score and ran his blood to water for the cause. Kent didn't do much when he came on.
