As a snip of a lad i always thought Gerry Stewart was ok. Then along came Peter Springett, followed by Gary Pierce from Wolves (£35,000) which was a major signing for the time. Then there's Martin New, Bobby Horn, Clive Baker etc.........
In my opinion dave Watson was a bloody good goalkeeper that got my vote although he was a tad dodgey on the cross situation. Great penalty stopper though!

you mean thort tongue surely ! :)

Dave Watson for me, although I'll never forget the way he, as well as the whole team threw a massive wobbler to turn a 3-0 into a 3-3 against Ipswich!

    RE: Alan Hodgkinson

May have looked a dwarf but must have been about 5ft 10in. At one time Sheffield had both England keepers ie Hodgy and Springett. Springett used to wear a yellow shirt during league games as no 1 England keeper as was the custom at the time

Recently Hodgy was the Scottish goalkeeping coach. A great character.

    In my lifetime

got to be Watson, always looked agile and just meant that the rest of the team, especially the defence, could be more confident knowing that a keeper of that quality was behind them. Am I right in thinking he played at U-21 England level? I think he could've gone a long way and it was a real shame he got injured.
