Loads of stuff on Twitter from Everton fans. Everton bus pulls into services, the fans ask Stones if he's staying or going, and he bursts into tears.
Mental. A lot of the Everton lot believe Kenwright really wants to sell & is putting pressure on the player to save on bonuses. Apparently they've done similar with others, Rooney, Arteta, Fellaini etc. Wait until the last week of the window to sell so they've not got time to reinvest the money whilst making it look like the player is driving the sale rather than the club. Stones' head must be a complete mess, he's in the middle of this transfer mess, he marks Aguero Sunday, away at his hometown club on Wednesday, due to play Chelsea or returning to Everton for Chelsea in a week or two. If he is in tears I'm not surprised.
I was with an Everton fan pre and post match this season. She also thought that there may be an element of "saving face" going on. i.e. Everton implying to fans, It's not us selling players, it's them wanting to leave. Seems an odd thing though - who issued the transfer request??
I feel for Stones. He's under massive pressure and he's handling it exceptionally well. You're going to crack eventually. You've got the media jumping on him everything he does (ie the jumping over the ball according to replays), ex pros putting their nose into things whether he should stay or go and the lad just wants to play games and get on with things. I still don't think Stones is the type of player to submit a transfer request as well so I think there's something behind maybe the board asking him to submit one. Everton need to take him out of the limelight for a while IMO....not like they've got anyone else to play or as near good as him mind.
I've just watched a clip of Stones leaving the pitch at Oakwell, and some of the Everton fans shouting at him "F#ck off Stones you rat". He looks up and has obviously heard it. If he hasn't actually handed in a transfer request, (as some folks seem to believe), then that is unbelievably harsh. If he has, it's still harsh.
I've just found it myself. https://twitter.com/dannycorker2/status/636702037539954688 Football fans will believe anything that's put in media. Lots of fans and media keep forgetting he's only 21. No matter what happens at Everton, every Barnsley supporter will still call him a hero and legend so he can always come back here!
Poor ickle wickle Stonsey woansy...being forced out of another club he loves. Don't be so chuffin daft! Crying all the way to the bank...
according to ex pros, clubs do get players to hand in transfer requests, helps them save face when they leave. i reckon this has happened here, i dont think stonesys the type to demand a transfer, but i defo reckon hes goin before tuesday now.
Also clubs arrange players to put in transfer requests as part of the deal. The selling club save money from loyalty bonuses being waved and the player gets it back in signing on fees from the buying club. The transfer request isn't like it used to be where a player would simply want to leave and write to the club saying so. If he doesn't go this window it makes the whole situation more puzzling.
Everton want their heads shaking. They want to win trophies but how do you do that when you sell your best players? Martinez wants him to stay, he's the manager, so let him get on with it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If it was just Stones then I might agree but over several summers they've had interest well before the window shuts in Rooney, Arteta & Fellaini & in all cases they've made it look like the players forced the move whilst selling the player at the end of the window without the chance to reinvest the money. If that was our board I'm sure we'd be thinking that we were been shafted
His cousin says he lives in Liverpool, that'll do for me. Does come home a lot so maybe someone saw him out with the dog over the summer? Was playing golf in Barnsley last week
Footage around of him and Naysmith being followed home and hounded after getting back from game. If I was getting that it wouldn't endear me to stay at EFC.
