I hope we had someone watching Omar Bogle at Grimsby yesterday, because we might just have spotted an even greater star in the making. The quality of some of young Ollie's goals has be stunning. Have a look at yesterday's third for Exeter and you will see what I mean. He is still young, however, and probably needs a full season at that level to sort himself out, but, if the Bogle deal doesn't happen, I would be looking seriously at Watkins. Class in the making and prepared to put himself about by getting his retaliation in first. Was also looking at Josh Morris in case Conor goes. His goal yesterday from distance with his left fot had a touch of Conor about it for sure. Morris and McGeehan would be a very potent combination. Get 'em in.
If we w interested in McGeehan before I'd see no reason not to pursue this. Didn't we sign Brian Howard with a broken leg. If heard very good reports on Watkins myself.
Brian aggravated an old injury on the first day of preseason training, meaning he didn't make his debut for us until October.
Not that it matters at all, but I'm fairly certain Howard had an injury when he signed too. I have a recollection of seeing a picture of him with a cast on his foot at the unveiling. Closest I can find to some 'evidence' for that is this article, which confirms that his last season at Swindon was ended by a broken metatarsal discovered in April. http://www.swindon-town-fc.co.uk/Person.asp?PersonID=HOWARDBR Given we confirmed his arrival (alongside Hayes and Kell) on 2nd June, it's likely he'd have been having treatment still I guess. Kell of course was a lot more damaged and never recovered. Apparently we'd given him a 2 year deal on much improved terms while in the early stages of recovering from a broken leg! http://www.bbc.co.uk/humber/content/articles/2005/06/01/010505_sufc_feature.shtml
All that may well be true. His announced signing was still a month before preseason started and the three lads (Howard, Hayes & Kell) didn't officially become Barnsley players until 1st July.
Quick look at Exeter forum, apparently someone there as photo of the scouting list from yesterdays game Aston Villa Barnsley Birmingham Blackburn Bolton Brentford Burnley Cardiff Colchester Derby Man Utd Notts County Reading Rotherham S****horpe Sunderland Swansea Tranmere. Another poster says Birmingham have watched Watkins earlier in the season (Crewe away for one) and won't be making a bid - think he's decent at league two but the step up to championship is too much, he's not quick enough. They were at Grimsby today watching Bogle but their view of Watkins was the same as before - not good enough for championship. Just one club's opinion - two different scouts though
I've been watching Ollie Watkins all season, someone told me to keep an eye on him and he looks superb. I'd be very happy with him signing
We went to the open day of the following season....Kell was on the treatment table with the Physio then .Hope he'd been home in the meantime .
I think it be worth a punt on one or the other both young and hungry, for me it's worth a shot. But I would also like to see us bring in two full backs and a midfielder of a similar mold to Conor.... and of course get Morsy back too.
Re: I think it be worth a punt on one or the other Brighton were hot on him around October 2016.........no bid yet though.
