Due to foreseen circumstances, both Brush and I are away for the match next Saturday. If we're going to put the Patrick Cryne flag on show again, we need a few volunteers to put it on display (probably in the unused bit of the west stand) and pack it up after the game. It will probably need to be picked up from Redfearn's bar and put back there after the game.

Any offers? Brush will buy you a pint if so. Cheers.

As a semi permanent thing can't it be fastened to the outside of the ponty above shops and offices looking down car park like they had one a few years ago.

We already have an enthusiastic volunteer for away matches, so we can't really put it somewhere fixed. I duspect you may vaguely know the away match flag lass!

Would the flag putter uppers be able to access the West stand, (just to put the flag in place) even if their seats are in the East? Can YTBFC help get someone through? I can't volunteer on this occasion as I might not make Redfearns at all depending on my daughter's game in the morning.

As Brush and Stahlrost will testify, I will help where possible. Whoever takes on the task I suggest they ask Ian (Stahlrost) how to contact me etc.

Good stuff. If I make it, I'll gladly do the honours, but doubt I'll get to the ground til 2.30 which means Redfearns is not happening.

A couple of volunteers still needed, please. Whitey, I'll be in touch when I've finished my tea...

    Its not a big job.

Me and Stalhrost got it out of the bag and onto the crowd (for surfing) in about 5 minutes and it took maybe another 5 to lay it over the seats in the East Stand.

At the end of the match 3 of us folded it up and put it back in the bag, maybe 10 minutes.

It really needs two people to carry it.

I've asked if it can be put in the north stand on the empty seats, where all our fans can see it. Will let you know what they say.

I've asked if we can put it in the north stand, in the empty seats next to the end of the east stand. However, I've not had a reply to my email. In fact, I've emailed the main email address (thereds@barnsleyfc.co.uk) several times over the years and I've never ever had a reply, so I'm not holding my breath.

The nearest we've got is Fired but she's going to be late. The flag is now at the club who've not replied to my request for it to go in the north stand.

Will try and chase it again tomorrow.

Ian, you emailed me and asked if it could be kept at the club ready to be picked up. I said that was fine. And I got the flag off Rebecca and it is in the office awaiting the fans next move. I also have no issue regards where it is placed on match day but it would be down to the stewards to decide that. Whoever wants to collect it and take charge of it on Saturday need only pop into the office and Bob's your uncle..

Rebecca and Lucy (2 small lasses) managed to take it to Brum and get it into the ground and placed over the empty seats. Not sure you need such a regimented plan of action mate. Get flag, take it in nice and early, ask to place it on seats, job done.

Re: Its not a big job.

Whitey, please don't think that this is a pop at you, because it definitely isn't. From what I hear you've been mega- helpful in the whole process.

    BUT

If the flag is already at the club. how hard is it for someone at the club to take 5 minutes at some point on Saturday morning/ lunchtime to move it to the preferred place?

I know it's a fans initiative, and that the club doesn't want to take ownership etc, but it is really a 5 minute job. And, in all probability, a one off.

I've worked at the club, and know for a fact that there are tons of people hanging about from 1pm. Stewards, and other staff. Is it really that hard? Surely this is something the club should want to help with??

I'm here e mailing Stahlrost and trying to work out how I can get from a kids match in the morning, drop players off, pick up my nephew, and get to the ground in time to pick up a flag, from a bar that I can't get in because I'm too late, get approval from stewards etc for an item that's already in a stadium where loads of people (who can easily get the necessary approval) could feasibly just put it up. Just doesn't make sense.

I can help take the flag down after the game, but can't take it away as I park in town.

Couldn't the club, on this one occasion, find someone (junior players, stewards, anyone with a bit of common sense) to just sort it. If this happened where I worked I'd just do it.

I realise that this is not what you are employed for - could you pass it on though? Just seems daft that a 5 minute job is so difficult?
