Why did you do that? I'm not been funny or anything but a bloke on the course with me today said he would have turned it down if it didn't mean him loosing his licence.

Apparently insurance company's reward you for attending these course's where as it averages £50 a point on your next renewal if you don't attend

So instead of getting 3 points and a £60 fine you pay £85 to attend one of these classes?

You can only attend 1 for obvious reasons, and which ever police force catches you thats the county you must attend the course, a bloke on mine this morning from South London who was a lorry driver and got caught in the lorry. £85 for his course his fuel here and back and a hotel room last night, reckons it's cost him approx £200 but he would rather have a clean licence for his job.

You learn something new every day :)

I'm fortunate enough not to have been caught, yet, so I've never had to know how it worked!

And i choose to drive as fast as i want to, and if i get done speeding i'll take the points/ban, iv'e never had a accident and i don't drive recklessly, i just drive carefully and if i end up above the speed limit so be it, at this moment in time i have a clean licence, and its not cost me a penny to clean it, the government have not got one penny more then the bear minimum out of me for the offence i committed

I'm not so sure that it makes as much money as you think it does. It doesn't make £85 per person because you were paying £60 anyway so it's actually £25 per person. If every course is completely full then it's £1250. The trainers wages probably takes that down to £1000 profit, then there's the wages of the administrators and those who book you on the courses etc plus the cost of the room and all the overheads. I've no idea what that leaves but it'll be nowhere near the £4250 that you first imagine it to be.

I do think they're a bit pointless though as they focus on the blame of the driver hitting people who are in the road. For me more efforts should be made to stop pedestrians from being in the road in the first place. I'd be all for the courses if the small revenue generated was used to educate pedestrians. I also think it should be an offence to cross the road without taking due care and attention. Anyone doing that would have to go on a similar road safety course or pay a larger fine.

They spend millions every summer on adverts telling us to look out for bikers, and not one penny on telling bikers to stop riding like tw'ats and look out for there self's.

That's what the IAM are there for, to improve drivers/riders skills. Don't tar every biker with the same brush, especially considering you've just admitted you like to drive as fast as you want.
