I think you have something in common with the great socialist George Orwell who in his book "The Road to Wigan Pier" wrote about the outrage of the expense of building Barnsley Town Hall when miners in the borough were living in slums... Think he stayed in Mapplewell and experienced the squalor for himself.

...by loaning a work of art. Fantastic idea!

"Did you take them old clothes to the Hospice love?"

"No, couldn't get in the door for this ruddy great big lump of metal and a bloke wearing an 'I'm not terribly fond of Bobby Hassell as a defender' t-shirt who was protesting at the waste of charitable funds."

To be honest, the proposed sculpture doesn't really get me overly excited. To say it was made in 2006, it does look a bit derivative of Russian post- Constructivist melarky. But that's just me. Any effort to engage the town and raise our profile is a great move. And I really believe the costs are minimal. Remember YSP has a certain amount of surplus work they need to place out and the means to transport and install.

Although tyrone1 is banned (why?) I thought it was worth bumping this thread now that the cost of the sculpture is known. Just £4000 for it's installation and £5000 per year to insure and maintain. Not exactly the millions that tyrone1 was expecting is it.
