I'm going to watch the Olympic ice hockey bronze medal game between Finland and USA instead of listening to our match today. I suppose I may have the football commentary playing quietly on the background, but I will definitely be concentrating on the ice hockey today. I think this must be the first time when ice hockey "wins" football for me... What kind of a monster have I become?! :frown: Come on you Reds! (and Finland Blues!) 3-1 for us today! (in both sports!)
You make me feel sick! Who are they playing then? And aren't you going to Germany again some time soon as well? I'm planning to go to a Bayer Leverkusen match next season, but I feel like I really need to visit Barnsley again too - it's been way too long.
I will be at Fortuna Dusseldorf vs. Bielefeld on Friday and Bayer Leverkusen vs. FSV Mainz on Saturday. I'm going to Manchester United at home to either Hull City or Norwich, my brother-in-law's cousin has always wanted to visit Old Trafford so I said I'd get tickets. If you let me know about a Leverkusen match I'll get you tickets, I already have a ticketing account with them
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind! I'm hoping to get it somehow sorted out through my workplace though - I work for Bayer (the pharmaceutical company, not the football club! ) - but I have no idea who to approach with such enquiries so we'll see how that goes.
Let me know if/when and I might pop over Their ticketing website is a nightmare, even my German brother-in-law was confused by it! Can't you just email one of the directors and befriend them?
I am you " in reverse". I have the Player commentary on and the hockey in the background on TV. Come on the Finns! Also come on Canada in the gold medal game tomorrow. Half of Canada will be up before breakfast time tomorrow to watch it. Pubs are opening at 4.30am! But most importantly of all, Come on You Reds! We need 3 points today.
Finland are 2-0 up after the second period! USA really got back into the game towards the end of the period though, and with Barnsley only winning by one goal too, the next twenty minutes of my life will be truly awful. :nails:
Better than could be expected, I'm sure. Great win for Barnsley and the Finns hammering the USA. Great day so far.
I know I'm repeating myself here, but... George Washington, Elvis Presley, John F Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, Buffalo Bill, Neil Armstrong, George W Bush... your boys took one hell of a beating! Too bad we couldn't play like this in the semi-finals, but this is simply awesome. And what a way this is for Teemu Selänne to end his career... Two goals in his last ever match for Finland! It's a shame that he never won a gold medal, but four Olympic medals altogether for a team like Finland is something amazing. Couldn't be happier for him, and the whole team of course.
Re: I know I'm repeating myself here, but... Thanks for that John! Two great results for "my teams" today, I'm still buzzing here. I wouldn't have expected Finland to thrash the USA like this, it's like they didn't turn up for the third period... which seems weird, because before this USA looked like the best team in the tournament for me! (I thought that they were good even against Canada.) No one expected anything from Finland in this tournament, but once again our team comes home with a medal. Hey, it's nice to be at least somewhat good in some sports! Best of luck to Canada tomorrow, CalgaryTyke ! I haven't got anything against Sweden, but I like Canada and I hope that you beat our dear neighbours. Winning bronze would taste sweeter than "losing" silver, and if Canada beats Sweden in the final, I think that they would have been too strong for Finland too.
Re: I know I'm repeating myself here, but... Cheers mate. Off to bed now for a shorter than usual kip. What a great day. Finland trounced the USA, Oldham (my other half's team) won, England beat Ireland at rugby, and most importantly, the Reds won. Here's to Canada winning gold versus Sweden in the morning. A very early start for us, but hey ho, it's only once every 4 years we get a chance like this. Come on Canucks.
Re: I know I'm repeating myself here, but... My son played Ice Hockey from the age of four to twelve, won everything in the british game and the trophies and medals here outweigh anything i won at footy. I travel to Finland a lot and was pleased to see them take a medal. I really wanted a Finland v Canada final though. Had the pleasure to meet Teemu Selanne on one of my trips to our office in Helsinki, a great player and the conversation proved he is a great person. Watched a lot of Ice Hockey here, in Europe and across the pond (maybe my BBS name gives me away), Saw the makings of a great defence man in PK Subban who looked class as a rookie for the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2009. One proud moment though was when my lad lined up against an ALL Star team lead by Brooks Orpik (pic below). http://www.flickr.com/photos/118478167@N06/12713893825/ Im a Pens fan so this was double cool. So despite affinity with all quarter finalists, more so Finland and Canada, i will have to wish Go Team Canada Go. One final bit of Ice Hockey trivia, did you know that Archie Stinchombe from Cudworth played (and later captained) Team GB to gold medal (YES OLYMPIC GOLD) in the 1936 winter olympics.
Re: I know I'm repeating myself here, but... Looking very good for your team at the moment! It's 1-0 for Canada after half an hour and Sweden have barely had any good shots on goal yet. I hope that you can keep that up for the rest of the game!
