    You don't need to be an animal person to feel something if you kill one, even accidentally. I love my dog so I would feel awful if I killed one, not just for the act itself but knowing that somebody else will be in bits. I don't particularly like cats but I'd still feel lousy if I killed one.

    I was driving home through Wombwell Wood when a rabbit got in the way. I braked and steered away buy the rabbit changed direction too. I ran over its rear end. I put the car into reverse gear to illuminate the road to see if I had hit it and you could see it dragging itself off the road. I got out of the car with the intension of putting it out of its misery but I couldn't find the poor thing in the undergrowth. I felt quite bad about it too but the foxes may have finished it off.

    Sociopath bell end. I've read and said some reprehensible things on here this takes the biscuit.

    Vegetarian thank you. Don't force other people to be or mention it really but I'd hope people had even a little empathy for animals and as has been said in the thread if not the animal itself then the family who loved it. You are absolutely disgusting.

    Because the vast majority of meat eaters would be appalled if they found out that animals weren't being slaughtered humanely or even being treated with dignity or respect while they are alive. I won't buy eggs from battery hens and I won't buy meat from countries where there aren't robust animal welfare standards.

    A couple of years ago somebody on here (possibly [MENTION=54092]Mr C[/MENTION] or [MENTION=55920]JamDrop[/MENTION]) posted a video of an undercover sting showing the mistreatment of animals at a British slaughterhouse and it really upset me. I eat meat but I couldn't hurt an animal and I feel very angry when they're mistreated. I just couldn't brush an incident like the one posted by the OP off so easily and be more concerned about my car. That's just the way I am though.

    It wasn't me who posted it but if I hit an animal, especially someone's pet, I would be distraught. Even if I didn't care about the animal (which I definitely would) I'd be more worried about how upset a child or even an adult owner might be than how damaged my car was.

    We are all internally inconsistent if we try and analysis anything too deeply.

    Of course its sad for the family who lost their pet cat.

    But cats in the UK kill 10 million wild birds every year so its good news for the 1 million members of RSPB.

    You could argue that in a world were many humans are malnourished we should not be feeding protein to pets rather than humans/

    I could go on about befriending the lonely old person next door rather than investing emotions in an animal. similar arguments apply to eating animals and animal welfare. We all weave our own path through these complex arguments. Not sure any one has a definite answer, but I for one will not condemn anyone else for walking a different path from myself. Unless of course they support Wednesdays
