It's doesn't does it. Which begs the question why we don't try a few through balls every now and again.
I think to do that we'd have play deeper. We're set up to press and nick the ball early. The strikers are almost always high up the field on the shoulder waiting for Hourihane to ping one over or the wingers/fullbacks to get a cross in. I seem to remember most of Armstrongs goals last season coming from him tearing off the defender about 25-30 yards out and running in for the one on one. I just cant see us ever scoring many of those types of goals. Thats not a bad thing as long as we continue to score crosses, set pieces and counters. Winnall perfected the type of movement and runs we needed from our strikers. I cant see Armstrong ever doing it but hopefully Bradshaw can.
I'm sorry but there's no excuses for Armstrong last night, his movement was atrocious, I lost count of the amount of times our midfielders had the ball & made gestures as if to say 'are you gonna make a run?' at him last night
I've thought for months that unless we change our style of play then having Armstrong is pointless. Im surprised we don't set up differently away from home to take advantage if his skill set.
The way things are going we'll be forced into changing style and formation in order to see the season out. 1 up top n ****
If we play 1 upfront we'll plummet down the league a la 2011/12 - mind we mightn't have much choice with the personnel we have left.
We counter attack usually don't we? (although obviously not against Blackpool). Which involves having quick players on the break...
That's how it's looking if/when Robbo/CH go. Hecky said himself you don't just get these sorts of players easily - they take work and some don't come off. we've been exceptionally fortunate (or fantastically good at scouting) - but there's no guarantee the next batch will instantly adapt to the Championship. In the absence of any other information, why it wasn't made crystal clear to the squad that they wouldn't be sold unless it was daft money I don't know. £3.5m for Roberts, compared to his value to us in terms of where we are and how we are progressing is abysmal. I'm not knocking him for going if he can instantly get life changing money, but he's only half way through his contract....
Occasionally. Saturday would have been a good day to use a team set does his strengths. Brighton away. Some games coming up say Reading.
After all the feel good factor of 2016 it's amazing how quickly things can go to sh.it. I think we've been fortunate that the players have had chance to develop and bed in the league below - anyone being picked out of the lower leagues to come into our team now in the Championship will struggle imho especially if we sell everyone of note. Agreed £3.5m is pretty terrible for Roberts given the situation.
What skillset is that? 1 goal in is it a dozen now? One of the worst players on the pitch against a team two leagues below doesn't fill me with confidence for saturday if we start him.
Really want to like Armstrong but I asked last night how we need to play to get the best out of him and still don`t know. With current personnel strongly feel that Marley and Bradshaw are the way forward.
A decent point. If we still had Morsy, him, Conor and scowen in the middle, with Kent and Hammill on the wings feeding Armstrong would be a decent way to play now Sam's gone. Just need someone else who can fill out the midfield and tackle a bit. Could also maybe play that with Marley up there and Hammill cutting in?
I tend to agree, with Armstrong on the bench to run at tired defenders 2nd half. I think he's got the potential to do it for us but he's not quite doing it so far. I expected him to be knocking loads in for us after the season he had at Coventry.
