This morning one of the best men ever to walk this earth passed away, he was an inspiration, a hard working man, family loving man, someone that I looked up to all my life.
He was like a father to me and my brothers, he told great stories of his time in the army, how he took on 50 Germans single handed, how he swam across the River Nile and was chased by a Hippo, how he marched to London with the Jarrow march. Of course as I grew older I realised that he was not old enough to have done any of these things, but it just made me love him more.

    RIP Uncle Ged

He was a nutter, he told me about how he went up the Orinoco River to find a rare Oozlem bird, him and David Attenbrough, went to Venezuela and discovered a new species of Dolphin and Crocodile.
He was a daft old bugger, but I believed every single word he told me, i could listen for hours, he made everything so real!!:D

Condolences mate, he certainly sounded a character and the stories you told about him reminded of my uncle who I lost a number of years ago (think Sid who ran the cafe on last of the summer wine) when I was a little un he told me he use to have a car what answered to the name haggy...and when I say answered I actually believed him when he told me it use to come to him if he whistled it, chins up mark and remember the good times

so sorry mate lost a dear work friend a while ago told me how he was painting the side of the destroyer in camoflage paint when a German periscope popped out of the water , as quick as aflash he daubbed it with paint ran to the guns let it get 50 feet into the air then shot it down surprising how many apprentices believed him. Anyway sincere condolences my thoughts are with you and yours
