Chester's Craig Mahon on their draw away to League One Barnsley: "It's a massive game for the club and myself. We did a great job against Southend the other day and we've got to go and do it again."
Chester goal-scorer Craig Mahon, speaking to BBC Sport about his side's tie at League One Barnsley: "It's going to be a tough match. We've got to have the same attitude as last time. "We are a fan-based club - a family club. Everybody knows and looks after each other. It's a pleasure to play for a club like that. We need to make sure we keep the momentum going. "I think we can take 2,000 fans - we have fantastic fans who follow us everywhere."
They'll have nearly as many fans in the ground as us, considering we only had around 4700 on Saturday, against (lets face it, and no disrespect to Chester) and considerably better team in Burton.
Yeah but we beat them 5-0 and are a round further on now so we may take a few more. They are expecting between 9 and 10k according to fans on their board, there's no way we'll get that many!
I reckon between 6k-7.5k max. I'm not being funny, but Chester (who a lot of people won't even have heard of) on a cold December afternoon, won't be a draw for anyone but the die hards (like me, but I'm actually in London that weekend) irrespective of our past result, and it being the 2nd round of the FA Cup (which isn't great considering our past endeavours). Alas, if we win and then get Chelsea at home in the 3rd round, cue queues.
I was referring the 'dads with lads' who may take advantage of another specially priced cup ticket offering. I can't imagine many part-timers and/or youngsters having heard of Chester FC, in a world where the likes of Rooney, Messi, Ronaldo et al are the norm. Anyways, whether they've heard of them or not, it's by the by; no disrespect to them, but it's a pipe dream to believe that there will be a big(ish) crowd there, on a cold Decembers day against a mid-table non league outfit.
But if there was an incentive re 3rd round tickets providing we beat them than it might entice a few extra
it's a load of old boll0cks really. a very winnable game, chance of a few goals, summat a bit different, likely to be a tenner again. but people will still stay away in their droves. ah well
Looking forward to it. Good of Chester to show respect, probably only Cov, Sheff Utd & Bristol City that's a bigger game for them
Fa cup ticket. Lovely Anniversary present and if she dunt like it well I'm sure it wouldn't go to waste. Win win
Actually, not a bad idea, we had our reception at Oakwell 14 years ago. Maybe I could convince her I'd organised an anniversary party with about 8000 guests, complete with live entertainment.
Could get club to highlight the event on the scoreboard. Although you'd have to explain what Harry Ani,,ersari D4rli,g actually meant
I dunno I personally find this game a much more interesting proposition than the 1st round which could have ended up like a lot of our league cup first round games where we have lost to lower league opposition in the past. As long as the club continue with the common sense pricing for cup games and Chester bring a few then 9000 wouldn't be a massive surprise. Had it been at Chester I think it would have been a good shout for a TV game but don't think there's any danger of that with it being at Oakwell.
