After last nights dinner with Roberto Duran, which a was an enjoyable evening, must say tho,my favorite one i've been to so far was Dean Richards who was quite open about the "Blood-gate Scandal" and spoke well through his time with the mic So, who have you been to and who was the best ? (should be a interesting thread).
We (Stainborough Cricket Club) organise one every year and we try to get the best speakers we can, and charge the lowest prices we can. Recent speakers have been mainly of a sporting theme, but we've had some great non-sporting speakers such as ex-surgeon Dr Kevin Jones, who talks about botched operations, and former air traffic controller Dave Gunson, who talks about planes reversing into mountains. In sport, we've had Geoff Miller, Graham Thorpe, Derek Randall, Chris Cowdrey, Alec Stewart and Dennis Lillee from the world of cricket, and Jim Watt, Ray Parlour, Graham Poll, Steve Kindon, Gareth Chilcott and many others who I've forgotten from other sports, mainly football. This year we've got Big Ron (Atkinson) at Shaw Lane, £30 including a 2 course meal on 24th October. Not an advertisement as the do is almost sold out. They are great nights out, if you like that sort of thing.
Jack Charlton was probably the best, just pipped Denis Law.......the worst by a long way was David O'Leary, what a complete tw@t . I was at Paul Jewells first speaking engagement and he was quite funny
