Ey up Neil, here is the whisky short list for you. I've kept the list short (it could have been so much longer) and I've stuck to bottles under £40. I've just chosen whiskies and bourbons that I think you'll like. Single Malt Dalmore 12 year old Dalwhinnie 15 The Glenlivet 12 Glenfiddich 18 Blended Bailie Nicol & Jarvie J & B rare Monkey Shoulder Johnnie Walker Black Label Bourbon Woodford Reserve Gentleman Jack Elijah Craig Buffalo Trace If you want any more suggestions just let me know. Sticking my nose in where it may not be wanted !....Isle of Jura, Bunnahabain, Caol Isla...and for something completely different Spis Slivka (£22) or Jelinek Palinka...both slivovitzes (Plum Brandies)...awesome flavours.or spanish brandies Soberano (£16), Torres, or Cardenal Mendoza....all these are of a high enough quality to drink neat, or with the tiniest addition of water.
Input always welcome mate, I nearly listed 'Isle of Jura Elixir 12 year old' but like I said my list could have been endless.
This may sound sacrilegious, however despite a lifetime of effort I've never been that much of a whisky fan. Think I'd choose Glenfiddich from the list above as that's always tasted a little smoother to me than most others I've tried. That said I enjoy the occasional bourbon, the last few bottles we've had here at Chez West were Bulleit and Maker's Mark, would definitely recommend either. Anyway Mario, how's the rehabilitation coming along?
I'm making good progress, the plaster is off and I am walking with a stick. Physio is helping and the movement in my ankle is improving. How do you drink your whisky, straight or with a drop of water? Glenfiddich 18 is a beautiful whisky but if you want a nice easy to drink whisky then try one of the Bourbons I've listed. The Woodford Reserve is very smooth and very easy to drink.
Good to hear mate, limping home for Christmas? Frustrating as hell no doubt, but slow and steady and you'll hopefully be reight. Too much of a wuss to drink it neat, usually a few ice cubes involved, which may also be sacrilege. Will have to give the Woodford a go, is it readily available?
Yeah mate, but at least I have a good excuse for my stumbling. I have bought Woodford Reserve from Asda a few times, they (and the other big supermarkets) do have quite a good selection these days. If you want to try other whiskies then the best online store, in my opinion, is this one where you can buy samples so you can try before you splash out on a full bottle. PS, ice cubes in whisky is sacrilege This one: http://www.masterofmalt.com
That stumbling will be running soon enough, keep the faith my friend. Unless you didn't run before obviously....... Bl**dy hell that website quickly shows me how little I know about the world of whisky and it's various cousins. Expecting to face the hell of Chrissy supermarket shopping in the next few days, if I see a Woodford on my travels (travails) it's coming home with me.
