I'd say that you'd not been listening to what had been said by the club prior to the season. However I may have totally misunderstood the actual crux of what had been said, which has happened before.
Wouldn't have believed it then. Wouldn't believe it now. Both deals, if CH goes through, will be a lot more than reported. We'll probably only find out after window how much more. Suits all parties for lower fees to be leaked. Just have to trust our club. Sometimes hard, especially if CH goes.
I'd have asked of Don was back. Even in the summer I felt that they were worth more combined. That's before kicking a ball in the championship
I would have said "no that's how we used to do things, not anymore" Fact is we haven't changed one bit.
One wouldn't sign a contract, the other might not do so. Nobody back then would have said that we'd be flying high in the division, many said this team werent good enough to stay up and most wouldnt have had either doing as well as they have. So what football fans think is pretty fking redundant.
In the summer I said that if they didn't want to sign new contracts we should sell at a realistic price and reinvest. I can't decide if I was right or not.
A lot of people talk as if footballers are some kind of machines which can be bought and sold, as if they don't have minds of their own. Footballers are people, with thoughts, opinions and ambitions, and they have agents. Once a player decides he wants to move, for whatever reason, there's nothing whatsoever the club can do. Nothing at all. B****r all. Zilch. Why not just accept that football works like that? The club are powerless, although they could insist on a player like Winnall honoring his contract. That would do wonders for morale and team spirit. The best they can hope for is to get some money in to help in finding a replacement. We just have to accept it and move on. It is what it is.
Spot on, once a player no longer wants to play for you and is desperate to leave then you just cut your losses and move on

Thing is though, without having ever kicked a ball at this level, was Sam Winnall's market value actually any more than we actually got for him? Tom Bradshaw scored a similar number of goals to Winnall last season in the same league, and we reportedly paid £650,000 for him. That has to be the benchmark for how much we would have got for Sam Winnall in the summer. Conor - a bit different as even a blind man could see that he was capable of making the step up with ease. But even so, I can't imagine his market value could have been much more than £3 million. Blimey, blows my mind even reading that back. Three million quid for a then lower-league footballer. Mental.
