But they get bigger crowds, so there!

Their default answer to any defeat against us is supporter numbers.

It's getting tiresome, after 35 years of shoving it up them.

I seriously think they only go to be part of a bigger crowd, it's surely not based on success or nice football is it?

Other thing is, all of the ones I know live nearer Barnsley than Leeds so really should be supporting us rather than following their mates like sheep.

Oh and it winds them up like mad when you tell them all this.

Crowd sizes are directly related to the size of the population of the city.

Yet football fans in general can't often grasp that concept.

Brian the Blade is the best example of this.

Their crowds are pretty poor for a city of 750,000 people.

And considering half of them come from outside the city. I know loads around our way. We're 15 miles away from dirty leeds. 7 from Barnsley.

Not just that, also the proximity of other clubs. We have to compete with the deedars, Rotherham, and Donny all within 15 miles or so, who have they got? Bradford (which is another big city).

That said I did notice yesterday that they didn't do the customary 'Barnsley's a **** hole' song. Presumably because half of their fans are from Darfield Road and the other half from Doncaster.

When I was on my way back into town after, I walked past a group of Leeds fans. One of them said, "we've got to support them through thick and thin. I'm born and bread in Doncaster but we're all Leeds at the end of the day".... errrrrr?

That said, any children that I will have will more than likely be brought up in Leeds, and they can support whoever they like (preferably not dem blades though) but I won't be taking them to Elland Road.

They've got fans all over the country, just like we have. When I used to travel up from the south to matches I always saw minibuses and the odd coach with Leeds Fans [insert any southern town name] Branch flags in the back.

Another thing I've noticed about them is the amount of them that have the shirts, and the ghastly large sticker that takes up their cars back window, but don't ever go.

They will argue the toss with you about crowds and try to take the piss, but they don't go to games very often, if at all.

I find that very strange and casual.

    Nice easy one this.....Leeds population 750,000.....Barnsley population 235,000 (3 x ish)
Leeds average attendance this year 19,009
Barnsley average attendance this year 13,703
They should have 3 times the 19009 then shouldn't they just to have the same numbers versus population?

I have a 'mate' who was one of a group of half a dozen from school, that I started travelling away with regularly in 1981. We went on some epic away days together which most of us still talk about now (getting chased at Bolton after being separated from the 'Special' escort, missing the double decker back to the station at Oldham and having to leg it etc). I was shocked to find out a few years ago that he's now a Leeds fan who follows them everywhere. He doesn't like to talk about his time as a Reds fan, especially on Facebook!
