I've had a mess about with the highlights video on Barnsley Player and managed to catch this shot of the handball. I know there's been a few pictures circulating but I thought this was the clearest one I've seen of it. Why we don't use video replays for stuff like this I'll never know. It wasn't even close.

Thanks for that, Stahlrost. How could the ref see that - he can't see through Roberts' body!!!!

Should he have been sent off for the handball?
In the event the penalty was sufficient punishment, a sending off could have proved worse.

And Bree is slowing up AGAIN. He simply refuses to help the centre backs out.

It was a stonewall free kick...
    And possibly a booking.

Strange thing for me is our players seemed to accept the penalty without causing a right fuss. I can think of many instances where players would be screaming at the ref to check with the linesman etc

After he's given the penalty no amount of 'causing a right fuss' would have changed his mind. That would have just caused bookkings for dissent. Not arguing shows maturity and a level head.

I believe Josh Scowen got booked for arguing about it, at least I think it was him. A yellow card was definitely shown to somebody. Maybe the ref booked himself for making a balls-up of it.

Scowen was pointing out the ball wasn't on the spot.

I was lucky enough to be able to see the monitors with the sky feed and there is a better angle looking along the line of the penalty area which showed 2 things.
First it was at least a yard outside the area
Second the ball struck Roberts hand only because Wood headed it on to it at a range of about 1 foot. Absolutely no way was it a deliberate handball. Evidenced by the fact that Dean didnt even book Roberts. I really don't know how Roberts is supposed to get his hand away in that time frame.

I agree but that's a bit naive. It has never stopped a footballer!!

But... but... that fair-minded Garry Monk said that Leeds were hard-done to, despite already getting a penalty that wasn't.

To make it fair to the Champions, Champions Of Europe, they should have been given (at least) one more penalty that wasn't.

Personally, I feel Tom Bradshaw should have been sent off, just for existing. And as for Ryan Kent's hair? Red card.

It's just not on. Garry Monk's Perpetual Champions League Winners were robbed last night. Robbed.

    MOT.

And thirdly, that angle clearly shows the linesman didn't flag at any stage, yet according to Dean, it was the linesman who called it!!

We should have stood aside and let them score a couple, just for allowing us to be on the same pitch as their illustrious and honourable football team. We are surely not worthy of insulting their gracious wonderfulness by trying to score against them?

The video from the west stand, edge of the area camera, clearly shows two telling things.

    a. The "offence" was at least a yard outside the box
    b. The linesman on the far side was up with play, running with his flag in the down position, like they do. If they see a penalty they immediately raise the flag then fold it across the chest sort of thing. He took no part in the decision process at all.

Dean was barely in our half so could not have possibly made a fair decision from there. He clearly didn't want to look ineffecient in front of a big crowd and the cameras so left the linesman out of it. Had he at least gone for a quick consultation he might have changed his mind. But then again, maybe not....

The only handball in this incident was when Chris Wood picked it up.

I thought at the time he motioned to show that was the case, but haven't seen clip again. Proper dodgy.

On Chanel 5 they showed the view along the 18 yard line and the ball is at least a foot outside the box - and it also shows the linesman with a perfect view and he would surely have advised Mike Dean that it wasn't a penalty - if Dean had bothered to ask.

It wasn't even a hand ball. It was ball to hand.
