The only player whose salary I knew down to the penny was 80s full back Paul Cross, because I worked as a cashier at the bank where he deposited his salary cheque when I was 18. I've forgotten the amount now though - needless to say it was multiple times what I was earning...

Cheers for the email yesterday. I replied, but it bounced for some reason. I'm that skint even my emails bounce.

Can't make head nor tail of any of it like.

We spent a lot of money in season 2012/13. That's my take...

If COG really is on such a huge sum, I would like to see us explore the option of offering him a longer deal on less money per year.

I'd guess that we've thought about doing that, but it's pointless seeing as though it could upset him and force a move even more. More so, he could probably find a contract at a different club for more money he's on here, so why should/would he take a pay cut?

So flog cog, get £500k (possibly in stages), and save £350k on wages.

How much to replace him then ? Both in fees and in salary ?

Then how much is left to sign some quality ?

That will be what forces our hand.

I doubt any club would sell us a striker that scored nearly 20 goals in the league above for £850k.

If we can't afford him, fine. Not a problem. It's a shitter but all the best Chris and thanks for everything.

Just sceptical about the timing of these 'leaks'. 3 months ago (pre season tickets) Danny had a very competitive budget and we weren't to be massively impacted by relegation & we'd be signing 20 players. Mid July and we're having to get shut & sharpish. And this isn't a dig at Mansford. He's the face of a 3 man board.

Interesting though these"leaks" aren't coming from Oakwell just Radio Sheffield recycling old news and Alan Briggs who probably has to justify finding some news on a no news day.

He made a good point yesterday though. Were COG not interested in a move to Sheff Utd the story would have died out ages ago.

He also retweeted my blog today where I stroked his ego and gave him a kick on the sly.

No smoke without fire and that. Clough openly talking about him, Biggs doing so too. Something happening.

I don't think you can recycle news that Cranie & Kennedy are available when it's never been mentioned throughout the Summer.
