This morning is great news. I might not have this 'because he's a Barnsley lad' thing cos I'm not from Barnsley but stats don't lie. Keith Hill had a better record in his last 16 games as did every other Barnsley manager we wanted out but this time, we've got half a million in compensation. The timing isn't great but better than never for me. There was only way we were going and that was down under Hecky. Time will tell if it's everything behind the scenes that's caused this horrendous form but the board wasn't tactically inept all season. This is a football forum so is my opinion.
Nah, that's a smokescreen our fans come out with. Heckingbottom admitted he had a say on the players and none were signed without his say.
A headline you will never see: Man rescued after 14 days under rubble refuses chocolate bar because he doesn't like kit kats. When you are desperate you'll take any scraps you can find.
The reason the majority didn’t want Hecky out is because they could see that he lost 8 players of his first 11 from last season, had to replace them on one of the smallest wage budgets in the league, has had to cope with lots of off the field drama & barely been able to field Gardner, Isgrove, MacDonald, Fryers, Cavare due to injuries & had to do without our best player Yiadom for the first 2 months of the season. He was also left with an unbalanced squad. He’s repeated numerous times that he likes to have four first team strikers to rotate between & was left with just 3 with 2 of them been Ugbo who wasn’t ready for this level & Thiam who’s never played here before & didn’t look fit until December. We should’ve been this season’s Rotherham. It’s a miracle he’s had us outside the drop zone with the state the squad was in August - January. I can’t speak for everyone but where he comes from has no relevance to my thinking. The only people who seem to bring it up are people who don’t rate him like yourself & Hemsworth Tyke. The good news is the squad’s in a far better place than it was a month ago so it’s likely that results will improve especially with a few easier games coming up so you’ll be able to come on here & claim ‘I told you so’ as stats are the only thing that apparently matter.
They're not all rubbish though, and someone else might get a bit more out of them by playing them in their most effective positions and basically showing a bit of faith in some rather than chopping and changing so much. One game that comes to mind is Cardiff. He rested players for that, with leeds in mind and we lost both and with the exception of Sunderland away, we've never really recovered.
Hecky said on radio Sheffield a week last Thursday that he signed the players he wanted and if the club put players to him he would tell them not to waste money as he would not play them.
I think we will be fine. He won us the JPT but it was Lee Johnson that got us to the final. He got us promoted, but it was players brought in under Wilson and Johnson that did it. Nobody brought in under him has stood out yet to the same level as those who have left us in the past 18 months or so. Infact many brought in to work for him, he's failed to inspire and it's wasted us millions on guys like Kpekawa, Mcgheehan etc. Being 'one of our own' stopped him being fired after 3 wins at home in a whole calendar year, when you're trying to sell season passes. 2 wins in two dozen games would have got most other clubs managers/head coach sacked in a results driven business. He's had three transfer windows since losing some of our best players and the team is still far from the finished article, which makes you question how good his plan B was for if we lost players. It's a shame he's done a Winnall by leaving around the time of the funeral of a club legend. We can't be shocked he left he used to play for Wednesday too. Bad though that he's stollen three more staff members from us, and clearly the truth isn't it's all been sorted in the past 24 hours. Right now we as fans owe it to the memory of Patrick to get behind the team more than ever and stay in this division for him.
Hes never going to be able to build a proper team at Barnsley loan signings and short term contracts . If we lose to a team that has spent much more than us on its playing squad on Saturday critics wil lbe out in force. A young manager with ambition quality and a good work ethic he deserves a crack at the play offs.
We stuck by him through his 1 win in 4 ratio and even allowed him to sign someone in their 30s and sell our club captain. He got plenty of support. We already want Leeds to lose every game and so nothing has changed really.
