We won promotion in '68 with average crowds of over 10k in the 4th division we then had a few good season in the old 3rd division, consecutive top ten finishes before being relegated and then Clarke arriving a few years later.
Tha needs to get this on a plaque or send it to the club for that community thing they were doing in the East Stand. Brilliant post.
I started watching when we were in the 4th division and almost to a man our supporters were the most miserable, ingrate, critical, curmudgeonly old b*stards you could ever meet. I thought our manager was called Iley Out. The players got dogs abuse. If a chant ever did erupt it was either racist abuse, questioning the parentage of the referee or warning the opposition fans they were going to get their ******* heads kicked in. After the match, and often during it, they did kick each others heads in. The patience, tolerance, optimism (they don't want to go up!) and all round good nature of our fans these days is light years ahead of what it used to be.
Oh and don't forget we beat up our wives, raped our children and did our best to cover up and protect paedophiles.
