Could also be that there was a lag in reporting over the Christmas break. Whatever the reason, it's a national disgrace.
My cousin in Poole has sent my wife a text. Apparently his wife who works in a Care Home had Covid during May and she's in isolation again after showing classic symptoms over the last three days. She's having a test tomorrow so we will know more then.
How are they not comparable? The NHS completely overwhelmed every January with no available beds and patients laying in corridors. I know the doctors etc are having an extremely hard time as its more stressful than usual, more worrying and they're having to try to keep their distance and things but in terms of the NHS being overwhelmed it is overwhelmed every January and we run out of space completely with no beds at all. That's definitely a comparison that has to be made isn't it when we talk of the nhs being overwhelmed
What % of tests are positive? Nine months into lockdowns (of various names) and we still don't have a cost benefit analysis of the harm being done vs the good being claimed. Is it too much to ask? Do we have comparions to hospital numbers at this time of year for previous years? The same for deaths? Just to add some perspective. If things are this bad why the hell are we still playing football, Snooker and Darts? I find I truly baffling. Really fear the schools being shut again it's like a dagger to the heart for our family. "Online learning" total joke for us.
To reassure you, reinfections are very rare, and scientists best guess is that those who do suffer reinfection have a genetic susceptibility as they don't produce antibodies in the way the general population do. For the small number worldwide that have suffered reinfection is has typically been far milder. There is absolutely no fear amongst scientists that vaccination won't work. I think it's important to always put these things in to perspective.
Which is great news generally speaking and means once we have the most vulnerable vaccinated we should be in much better place along with warmer weather (hopefully)
Have you seen the figures over the last few weeks? CAVEAT: Nobody on this planet says that historical data of deaths do not matter. To suggest so is really poor. But,at the minute, we are completely fcked.
Figures will rise again no doubt when people break the rules again new years, a certain Mr corbyn has been caught AGAIN flaunting the rules.
I don't want a full lockdown, my daughter's just got used to going to school and she loves it. However it's out of control again and once again the government are dithering on making a decision. The weather is getting worse, it will undoubtedly lead to more A&E and more serious admissions. This is the perfect storm, I wonder how many folk needed treatment today resulting from the snow and ice? This is before the standard admissions. Not enough staff, too many moving parts for the NHS to cope. Again without turning this into a politics thread, this is what happens when you cut and ignore previous recommendations going back years, i.e. Cygnus, and many reports linked to staffing and resourcing including social care. Ditto with council service provision all round.
Which would be newsworthy of course and is not something we want to see. Which is why I would like to see comparisons made to usual winter months not to April.
Aye in the big scheme of things re: Government reaction, planning, inconsistency, not following the science Corbyn looks like a complete twart.
53k positive tests, are they all cases? How may are actually symptomatic. How many are specifically in hospital due to Covid? Are some people in hospital for other reasons and have just tested positive? What's the comparison in hospital admissions to a normal year at this time? What's the usual death figures. I'm not trying to downplay anything here just saying that the headline figure is one thing but I would like more detail. Or we can just type it out numbers in the written form for dramatic effect.
Doesn't do himself any favours does he let's be right. When boris dad (who has no involvement in politics) didn't wear a mask it was frowned upon.
