Barnsley Fan A: I think we could do x, y and z better and if we had held onto a couple of players and maybe be brought one or two in we could have made it into the play offs. Barnsley Fan B: No chance. We were never going to make the play offs. For a small town northern club we are doing better than we could ever dream of. It will never get better than this. A: Oh, I just think we have a fantastic manager and some good players with a bit of support we could have made it. B: What a negative, defeatist attitude. Why don't you get behind them?
You should have written the entire post in Latin, instead of just the title, then it would seem like a new subject instead of one I've read about 8000 times before.
I keep hearing how we should have kept hold of players, to be honest In a ideal world I think we should too but in the real world it sometimes aint that simple. Player A: My agent reckons Sheff Weds are after me and want to pay me 17k a week, im only on 4k here and would like to go please BFC: Absolutley no chance mate, we need you to end of season, is that ok? Player A: Oh, ok no problems, I will contunue to play with the same enthusiasm as before and will totally forget about the extra 13k a week im losing and give my all for this fine club BFC: Great, thanks. Repeat for player B but add 10k a week on and similar for player C. Not disputing we could have brought one or two players in but apparantley we did try. Maybe need to push the boat out a bit more possibly.
Why on earth would I want to start yet another thread on a subject that bores me stiff as it's been mentioned over and over again by the same few posters?
What would be really exciting is if you started a thread on a different subject rather than these tedious posts. We KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.
I think you've missed the point. I am not talking about whether or not we should have kept the players. What I am saying is the people on here who believe we can do better and have belief in the manager, these are the people who are labelled negative and defeatist.
Like I keep saying, don't read them and don't comment. You're not obligated to read or respond to posts from anybody on this board. The board is only as strong and varied as its contributors - if there isn't a thread about a topic you want to discuss then start one. Easy.
There are rules about repeated posts. Other people have received bans for them. I start threads when I have something to say. I don't feel the need to bore everyone stupid by repeating myself. I don't see the point in it.
To be fair, there are a finite number of topics when discussing BFC at the moment. You can't have much to say if you can't think of a topic to start a thread on.
Fan A) What a great 12 to 18 months its been to be a reds fan. Shame about january but i dont work at, or own the football club so i dont really know what has gone off Fan B) Nonsense, We should have told players who wanted to leave that they were going nowhere, everything would have been fine then. The owners wnak and needs to fvck off Fan A) You may have a point but there is no guarantee holding onto them would have made a difference to where we finish. Fan B) Just shut the fvck up, i know more than you and i will continue to force home the point at any opportunity
I'm pretty sure no one is labelled negative and defeatist for having belief in the manager. I think they only get labelled that when everything the club does is wrong plus there were loads of threads on here complaining that we didn't tie Conor or whingeall down to longer contracts even tho both players wanted to run their contracts down and keep their options open....bloody hell even I'm repeating myself now!
Fan A. What a season we've had, I'd have took this at the start of the season, gutted we couldn't keep hold of our players in January but **** happens and we move on. Fan B (fingers in ears) la la la la la not listening la la la la
That pretty much sums up my view on this recurring topic - though in all fairness there are only a handful of fan B's it just seems like there are loads because they all keep repeating themselves. Just to be clear though we had to sell Bree - he knew he could get much more money in the summer than we could ever offer him, and we had to make sure we cashed in on his potential. A tribunal wouldn't have been a good option for us. Also although he may well become a class player - at his current stage in his career he should be replaceable We also had to sell Winge-all, its clear he didn't want to play for us and wasn't popular with the players -there was no point forcing the contract and having him go for nothing in the summer having been a pain for the last year. The only possible one to do anything different with was Conor - I think if Patrick had stood firm and said we needed him he would have played out the rest of his contract with the same energy as the last 18 months and then moved in the summer - we would have been 3 million worse off and he would have been a bit frustrated - and I think we still would have missed the top 6
