CNN channel, poor reporters standing out in the worst weather you could ever imagine.
    Gripping stuff.

Have you seen the sea in Tampa? It's been pushed back by the storm. That can't be good. That water has to return eventually. Tampa in direct path of storm, and ill prepared. Could be a nightmare there.

I could be wrong but I think that the sea operates different in a hurricane or tornado than in a tsunami.

In a tsunami the water gets pulled out to build the wave which then comes back in fast as one big wave. In a hurricane the water is sucked up into the spout which obviously leaves the highest land (beaches) dry. It doesn't rush back in in a wave though because it hasn't gone out its gone up. The water comes down as rain usually on land as it moves inwards but for the beach itself it just naturally returns as the levels settle themselves out. So the water disappearing isn't a bad sign from a wave point of view but it will be deposited elsewhere and cause floods

Wow, just been thinking, if that's the case then it must take the Marine life as well. Imagine Sharks and other large fish falling into the streets. The phrase' It's raining cats and dogs' would have to be reworded

Small fish and crabs have been picked up and dropped miles away but due to the fact that they weigh a LOT and they're under the water meaning a lot of energy is used up lifting the water before them it is unlikely but technically possible to pick up a shark. I checked after sharknado

I think both happens. Some water is sucked up in to the hurricane but there is also a release point at which there is a huge surge. As for fish etc, there have been reprts of fish found way inland on some of the Caribbean Islands.

That half hour or so of the leading edge of the storm before the eye was incredible. To see that maelstrom and then the peace of the eye was amazing.

This storm surge is taking its time to make an appearance.
