reliable sources say that Some eyes in North East are turning towards Paul Heckingbotham for Sunderalnd manager
The only thing keeping him here is the fact he's a Barnsley fan. Sunderland are a much bigger club who won't sell their best players every January and summer.
If they came knocking he would be mad not to go. Constantly having to sell your best players is going to grate after a while.
Yeah if they come knocking it would be far too much of a wonderful opportunity for him to turn down. Their fans seem keen on him rather than the usual belittling of us. They seem to want a young and hungry manager that can change the whole club and he'd be supported with parachute payments. Would be a dark day for us.
If I were a manager, I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Depressed area, delusional fans (but passionate when things go well), by far the worst squad in the top flight with their one good player moving on, regular boardroom changes, managers rarely lasting a season and a fanbase that has no connection or rapport with him if it goes wrong. In 6-12 months time there will be much better options coming his way.
Kind of agree with that. Hecky will be a top manager but don't think he'll have the time to develop into the manager he could be, whereas with us, he will be. Sunderland could comfortably finish mid table next season, putting pressure on Hecky for the following season. By then, we could be relegated and back in League 1 if we don't get our appointment right.
They are £110m in debt, and their wages (even with their terrible squad) were £68m. The parachute payment they receive next year will be £24m, then £19m the following year and finally £9m the year after. If they don't go up in those 3 years then they will follow the likes of Bolton down the football pyramid. Hecky isnt daft. He knows what it would mean for his long term future if he went there and it doesn't work out immediately.
Two things: 1) He's Barnsley thru and thru 2) Because he hasn't got the high profile name - he would be sacked if Sunderland got promoted or they didn't. To become just another name on the ex-manager scrap heap.
The very thought of losing him is very sobering on top of the players that have gone and the ones courting attention. We went from the doom and gloom of sacking one manager after another to two glorious Wembley finals, a fantastic first half in the Championship, particularly away from home. If he and a few players go after the season tickets have been renewed, there will be a lot of disillusioned fans. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
11/13 with Unibet so Giggs isn't an heavy favourite.... https://m.oddschecker.com/m/football/football-specials/sunderland/next-permanent-manager
Sunderlands last three Managers re- Dick Advocaat, Sam Allerdyce and David Moyes all resigned which wasn't a massive drain on the finances. Their parlous financial state has not been helped by having to pay large fees to sack Steve Bruce, Martin O'Neill, Paolo Di Canio and Gus Poyet. With a projected personal fortune of £1 billion it sounds like Ellis Short their owner wants rid and is therefore not keen to invest much more of his own cash into the running and infrastructure of the Club. As far as Hecky is concerned it's probably a case of the devil you know rather than the devil you don't.! We don't know the full facts but from what my brother-in-law who's a staunch Mackem tells me it sounds like a toxic gig so it might be best for Paul to steer clear and stay put.!
He certainly wouldn't be hindered by having to buy an unknown from Boystown United to pay thirty quid a week wages, bring him on and sell him asap. Big clubs don't do that. They TRY to play the big time charlie even if they fail... some of them get away with murder year after year. I'm sure that the alternative of starting all over again from an even worse position with us fills him with joy. Bet he can't wait for July.
