Got me thinking. Restricting the capacity by say 4000 when you know you could sell them rather than gambling on doing so) adds an extra (even at £25 a ticket) £100k Don't know the costs but (total guesswork) say 25 extra of SY's 'finest' on overtime (guess £250 a pop (cop! )) 50 extra stewards - no idea but much less per steward than a copper) call it £15k extra (given that these extra bodies are just to handle the extra fans in and outside the ground. Add on any increase in Public liability (do we pay per match or is it an annual policy based on average attendance) and additional ticket printing/ admin (pretty nominal) all expenses VAT /tax deductable .It cannot come to anywhere near the extra £100 generated so what is the real reason? Therefore, to those saying it is a club issue and decision it does not make sense. What am I missing (notwithstanding that my guesstimates could be way off the mark)?
I just can't understand how you can be in one stadium where home and away fans share the same stand and can practically reach out and touch each other, but at Oakwell we need exclusion zones in separate stands yards apart.
We know you can' understand it, that's abundantly clear But despite your lack of comprehension you still have a go at the proprietor and management of the business. Perhaps. In future when you. Can't understand you either research that subject area to find out the facts, or keep you trap shut.
I can see your point but the club have known for a long time that fans have been baffled by this and have been asking the questions so as a public facing organisation who's relationship with their supports is key shouldn't they have answered the question? Then we WOULD know the facts.
Well recently. On the syp website. Inbthe section the refers to crime in each area, it said Barnsley has a large football. Hooliganism problem Maybe it has something to do with syps perception
Err! Can you read!!? I did not "have a go at the proprietor or the management". Quite the opposite in fact. If you bother to read the OP I stated "Therefore, to those saying it is a club issue and decision it does not make sense." As regards " keeping one's trap shut " might be sound advice for yourself as you failed to read the OP properly.
So coming back to my OP ... The above can be resolved with extra policing and stewarding to accomodate the larger crowds. SYPT seem to be able to cope with 20-30k crowds In Sheffield so why are they unable to accept 20-23k games. Sorry the BFC hooligan argument does not stack up especially when Leeds go to Hillsborough and the crowds are well in excess of what Oakwell can hold. We are talking the same police force are we not?
Not privy to the facts, however I can't imagine syp have some kind of vendetta. I'd be interested to hear from the club on it though. If the cost of policing is more than the extra ticket revenue, then it makes sense. I just don't really understand how the extra policing for an extra 1000 or so fans, can cost that much more. Dunno
Oops!!! Many apologies for the misunderstanding and following unjustified rant at you. Still getting used to the non threaded nature of the board not noticing you were not quoting my OP plus a 'senior moment' I guess. On the other follow up post do you think SYP are only incompetent when it comes to Oakwell's hooligans? They seem to cope with the hordes of Leeds and Wednesday thugs OK. Perhaps the Barnsley chavs and wannabe hard-men are a different proposition although I can hardly imagine South Yorkshire's 'finest' with their riot gear to hand are exactly quaking in their boots at the prospect of dealing with them! half of them are either coked up or pissed (chavs not SYP )
