I hoped Burnham might have made Labour leader back in the day. Such a pity he's not able to apply his abilities in Westminster, but at least its Manchesters gain.
'Canaries in the Coal Mine'. Outstanding He's stepping up for his people, and doing what he's paid to do, at a time when others are doing the complete opposite.
A great and heartfelt speech from someone properly dedicated to the people he serves. Sadly, because too many people voted to "get (a ruinous) brexit done" we are stuck with a bunch of absolute Jeremy's in government. In office, but not in power.
So labour want the whole of the UK to enter into a national lockdown, but labour regional mayor where there is by far the worst outbreak, refuse to back limited regional restrictions? Is he opposing the lack of funds for the shut down businesses or saying the measures themselves will do little? I don't disagree on either of those points and of course he doesn't have to tow the line the party have set out.
He is, and good on him. Others should follow his example before towns and cities are brought even more to their knees than some are already. I just hope he doesn’t cave in tomorrow
He's saying that regional lockdowns won't work and that all the scientific evidence at the government's disposal says they won't work. Mainly because if you don't lockdown the neighbouring areas they're as much use as a chocolate fireguard. He's also demanding 80% furlough for any lockdown. The original deal and not a watered down version. He then refuses to be used as a trial by the government to see if this works.
Is that cockney rhyming slang? Not heard it before but I assume its Jeremy Hunt rather than Thorpe or even Platt lol
Thanks, nice to have a reasoned response as I was genuinely trying to get my head around it. So is he still in favour of a national lockdown do we know?
I'd have to watch it again but I think he said something along the lines of 'a national lockdown is recommended, and whilst we might not personally agree with that, we support it in the nation's best interests'. Although why I'm trying to paraphrase I don't know. What he actually said is somewhere in this tweet or was in reply to Sky News.
