Anyone on here have any idea of what PAYE staff can claim back from HMRC?

With regards to mileage claims and such?
I get about 10p a mile back in my monthly salary, I've been told today I should be able to claim something back, is this right?

I think if it's your own car your milage allowance is 45 pence per mile and you can claim the difference back annually from the tax man. I hope that's right for you.

A company called rift do the military claims.

We get 25p a mile when the government rate is 40p, or as above possibly even 45p.

Rift are really good and make claiming the difference really easy but obviously take a cut

Apparently you can DeeTee, cos I don't get full allowance.
I only get the 10p per mile on business mileage.
According to the lad at work I can claim the tax from the difference between the 40/45p and my 10p

If you use your own car on business then you can receive up to 45p a mile I think for the first 10k miles and 25p a mile afterwards tax free because that is the amount the tax man says equates to the costs you incur taking into account not just the fuel but the cost of wear and tear on the car, tyres etc and depreciation of the car.

Therefore, if you were actually getting paid 20p per mile, and did 20k miles then you would receive £4000, but HMRC says the that you could have received £7000 (40p x 10000 plus 25p x 10000)

Therefore, you would be £3k down, which is seen as a business expense.

So you can then receive tax allowance on the £3k at your highest rate of tax - think of it as increasing your personal allowance by that much. Which means that if you were a 40% tax payer, then you would get 40% x £3k back = £1200. If you were a 22% tax payer you would get 22p x £3k = £660 back.

Not sure why anyone would pay a company to do it for you, it is a piece of piss. If you do a tax return then it just goes on that - there is section for business expenses. If you don't do a tax return you can just download form P87 from HMRC

If you are using a fleet car then you are not entitled to the same because your costs are not the same - it is not your car suffering the depreciation and the wear on the tyres etc. Therefore, you are just entitled to an allowance to cover the fuel you put in it. Not been in this position, but this site below suggests that the rates are dependant on fuel type and engine size, and vary from 9p per mile for a small diesel engine car to 21p per mile for a petrol engine car over 2L.

Its pretty much as DSLred has explained , i used to do it but have gone back on the company car scheme ,
You should be getting a " Fixed Profit Car Scheme Statement " per year , from your employer detailing what you have been paid for mileage( see image ) .
The last time i claimed they were stopping refunding monetary wise , but were adjusting the tax code ( personal allowance ) to suit.
Fill in the P87 Form , a copy of your Fixed Profit Car Scheme Statement & a copy of your P60.
    Hope it helps !!
