I would just like to say to all the vets on here, we made it, so lets spare a minute or two at some point today or even raise a glass for all our brothers and sisters that didn't, GODBLESS YOU ALL
I had life easy as a "blue job" but I'm still proud to say that I spent the better part of 40 years serving HM, both in uniform and as an RAF civil servant
I have one son still serving and my youngest son is a veteran I will indeed raise a glass to them and all those that serve and have served GOD BLESS THEM ALL
Currently in Southampton with the good lady wife, we will raise a glass or 3 to you and to every single one of you, all heroes and legends.
I managed 12 yrs without a shot .fired in anger so god keep those that did, and have the memories and those that didn't return
Only shooting I had to do was annual GDT, firing at cardboard targets. I was never all that good at it so I dread to think how I would have been on operations. The SLR was a heavy, smelly weapon that I hated cleaning afterwards. Loosing off a few rounds was alright though Not that it was ever likely that I would have to actually shoot at somebody. The likes of me were kept well away from the sharp end so I have the utmost respect for those who had to go to places like Iraq and Afghanistan. Not many RAF guys were killed on ground duties, but there were enough during my time, and I knew a couple of them. A few aircrew obviously, and I knew some of them as well. RIP to all.
Well said Jedi 1. Seeing the Menin Gate, the Cemeteries at Monte Casino and other monuments dedicated to the fallen in various conflicts around the globe drives it home how immense a sacrifice they made in order that successive generations could live in peace. My glass is raised to you and any other surviving Vets on the BBS site. Continued good health and thanks to all the brave lads and lasses who have served our Country and worn their uniform with such pride.
500 ex military living rough in London. We should be ******* ashamed. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fans Forum
But we still send millions to Africa Let's look after our own before helping anyone else Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Foreign aid I'm probably with you on that though it's more to do with influence and trade than any idea of altruism. It's not to do with a lack of money though is it. It's about priorities. In April the government gave tax cuts of £1 billion to the wealthiest in society. That could perhaps have been better used to get all those lads off the street and every one else. In 2010 there were 77 ex military living on the streets. It shows how the Conservatives treat people in general and ex military in particular. One in ten homeless people ex military. They are the best of us. We live in a rich rich country. We can find money to send these lads into war but not after. Sorry for the rant. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
Good luck and best wishes to one and all either serving , contemplating ,or ex. Always observed remembrance Day for the recent conflicts and past including my great grandad and grandad who never made it home and are burried in foreign fields. I myself was all set to join up after two years in the Territorials but my ex persuaded me not to.
