Not sure how much truth there is in this but apparently he's only on 7k a week. http://www.claretandhugh.info/west-ham-go-over-the-top-on-wages/
If true then that isn't too bad by football standards. It's a heck of a lot of money, way beyond what most fans earn but a for a decent striker then that represents the kind of salary that we can probably afford.
Would we pay £28k a month for a player who will never be ours so has no resale value? Seems totally at odds with the current strategy to me.
I suppose the answer is at what point does financial speculation become business stupidity. £280k is a small price to pay a striker if he scores 25 goals and we get in the Play Offs but a big price if he only scores 1 goal and we get relegated. It's all a matter of judgement.
We won't get close to the play offs. We need someone to get enough goals to get us to 50 points. I'd say that's worth 7k a week when you consider the financial advantages of being in the Championship. Not sure the club sees it the same way.
We need to get in the real world 7k a week for a championship player is nowt . Wake up and smell the coffee boys .
Can't see it myself but if you are in the know somehow? If they pay all youth players 20k plus a week considering how many they have thats one big wage bill even for them.
