Just crunching the numbers, Barnsley ended up with an average gate of 14,061. Our good friends in Wigan, who pay lots in wages, recorded 10,592. By way of comparison, QPR is 13,721. Calculated from total crowds divided by games before the fan lockout. Not bad given the season we had.
Best Home attendance over the past 14 years (since my records began), when adjusted for 19 games, i.e. before attendances were banned.
The lowest avg was during one of our best seasons, the highest was one of our worst. Strange. But there were high expectations from last season, I reckon
I would imagine that QPR would have gate receipts well in excess of ours due to the exorbitant prices they charge to visit for their scrap heap of a stadium.
Incredible support. I'll say this again our support is under rated. If other side of the west stand was open. We would get more in especially in big matches.
The last few months we have been getting the same crowds as Man U, Man City, Arsenal & the likes, fantastic support indeed.
How do you work that out - the one game I can think recently of we came close to selling out the home end we did open the next section of the West- Usually the open part of the West stand has plenty of seats - not sure opening it up fully would get any more fans attending.
Think we do well imo, we have a borough pop of just under 250,000, for example Leeds have a pop of 750,000 and have not averaged out at the very max of their capacity ( if that makes sense) I also think we are a loyal bunch, their isn't that much of a big difference between our lg 1 and the championship ( bearing in mind more away fans in the championship) Hull and Middlesbrough are imo the most fickle bunch of supporters in all the leagues
Very good support and it hints at the potential for the club. Our away following has been mightily impressive as well for a few years now.
