Automatic turnstiles just another step in making us more robotic and needing less people. A machine can never replace being greeted at the turnstile by a friendly face.
At Bolton it was a man with a hand scanner that just scanned the barcode on the end of the ticket. Might be just making the savings on a card instead of producing the books and processing the tickets. Just hope it's not on the same system as the card machines in the ticket office. There's talk of print at home tickets and loyatly schemes in the pipelines. Dragging the club screaming into the 21st Century
The turnstyle operators union will be on strike! In all seriousness though, there are a lot of benefits to doing things like this, much more flexible deals on tickets can be done that you print out yourself or scan from your mobile. I think people are much more likely to purchase a ticket on a whim when they can pay and receive the "ticket" immediately.
No, a zipwire from the Metrodome to land in the centre circle. Once you dust yourself off, a harem of beautiful girls (or boys - can't be sexist) will carry you to your desired seat and you can choose one to be your assistant for the duration of the match. They give you a running commentary throughout the game and will also take food/drink orders and deliver them to you at half time.
Maybe if the game on the pitch is crap they could stream a live game from around the world to the new scoreboard. Instead of watching us lose 0-4 at home again we could watch the 3pm Spanish la liga kick off.
Assuming we get relegated, i know for certainty that there is planned redundancies. Wonder if our under-performing-dont-give-a-**** players realise (or even care) that people will lose their jobs?
there are no planned redundancies re the turnstiles operatives. Not sure about other staff though hth
I have just returned from Oakwell. I went there to renew my season ticket but was told I could not take it away with me because they had not come. They will not be available until 14th July. I was asked if I would be calling back or would I like it to be sent by post at a further cost of £1.50. I'm afraid that I took it rather badly. The season tickets are not ready and yet I have to pay again to get one. The girl on the counter told me the computer said "No", or rather there is no option for no change postal delivery. I asked to speak to Mr Mansford, who I could see was chatting in the office behind the counter. I explained my problem once again to Mr Mansford, that is they were taking my money and there were no season tickets, therefore the cost of delivery should be at the expense of the club. Mr Mansford explained that the club were going over to a plastic card system from next season and that this explained why there were no tickets ready. Sorry, but that is not my problem, I am here to pay for my ticket and am happy to take it away with me, it is the club who cannot complete the transaction. That is the decision WE have taken says Mr Mansford. As I was leaving I ran into an old friend who I know works on the turnstiles. Are you all out of work now with the new system, I says. No says he, I have checked and all turnstile staff are employed as normal. Customer service? Organisation?
as thereev revealed earlier in the thread .... no change to turnstiles as they still need people to use the hand held scanners. hth
Red Rain - Don't understand your problem to be honest. Think you are creating an issue out of nothing. It's not as though you can use the new plastic style ticket prior to 14th July, so why need it straight away? Cut em a bit of slack when they are trying to improve things!
Because it's wrong the paying customer is being penalised twice (postage fee & extra journey to Oakwell to pick it up in the future) when it's the fault of the club that they aren't ready.
So you would rather the club just did the norm and left things with the pointless season ticket books we have now.. I would rather either pick it up when they are ready and I am in the vicinity of the club, maybe prior to a pre season friendly or if I am in town. I wouldn't want 15K stripping off the clubs wage bill to offset the fact that they pay for the postage. It's £1.50 for us but potentially between 10 and 12 k for the club.. No brainer for me to help club, expecially as I like the idea of having just a card in my wallet and the club is moving forwards on that basis.. Plus if the worst happens and we are relegated, every £1.50 will be valuable to the club.
Can you give us heads up on which turnstile I can see the smile? Not seen one since 80s on a turnstile
You would be hard pressed to find anybody these days that doesn't give free postage and packing for spending that kind of money. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
