Worried about the club? Can’t work out the owners’ motives? Then read ‘Barbarians at the Gate.’ Years ago, a good friend gave it to me. I took one look and told him I wasn’t interested. Written by two journalists in 1989 it’s about the leveraged buyout of Nabisco. Couldn’t think of owt worse to read but gave it a go. It’s written like a thriller and from the first few pages I just couldn’t put it down. If you want an insight into the minds of money men and how the ‘Greed is Good’ culture took hold, give it a go.
Can't remember if it was you or someone else who reccomend it earlier this year - I've since read it and rather enjoyed it!
Just added it to my Kindle wish list. At £7.99 it's well outside my usual e-book price range, but if I wait a while it might come round on a deal of some sort. In the meantime, this made me smile in one of the reviews: "What I found most fascinating was that all these lords of finance - who we imagine are supernatural geniuses - are revealed to be so so amateur." Quite.
It's free to borrow on Rotherham Libraries e-book service. Download the 3M Cloud Library app and follow the instructions if you're already a library member.
Amazingly yes. Barnsley library weren't one of the participants in this ebook service - or they weren't when I first downloaded the app, I don't know about now - but I still have Rotherham library membership as I'm from Wath originally.
