We didn't play them from 79 to 2005. I can remember going there for a pre season friendly in the mid 80s, which we won 2-1 and we were in a pen behind the goal.

Changing subject. Are the shirts getting smaller? I wear a xxxl and they don't seem as long below the belly as they used to be?

Perhaps the fans are getting bigger with age? ;)

Sorry to be a pain in the back side but the game must have been some time before 1984 come to think of I have to admit I am knocking on now and the years are flying bye but Barnsley definitely play Doncaster in a shirt with a couple of stripes on but like I said it was a night game at belle vue

Back in the 1974/75 season, we drew 1-1 with Rovers at Belle Vue on a Friday night. They equalised in the last minute. We played in yellow shirts, with one red and one green stripe down the front left side.

I vaguely remember the shirt. It was, to my memory only worn once. Wasn’t it the match that Norman Dean broke his leg?

My mate is exactly the same. He's lost his sight, but his memory for small detail is terrific. I'm not bad myself, so sometimes fill in any rare blanks he draws.

I think it's a good thing to have it all in the memory banks. It makes for good conversation on the way to games, talking about the things we all have in common.

It seems that every time we play a team, something old is dredged up, like who were their strikers 40 years ago, how long since we last played them, how their ground has changed, or have they relocated, etc etc.

Can't imagine being a football fan and not wanting to discuss all that stuff.

I'm towing with that. Can't see the back row for starters, but apart from Bobby Collins, Steve Agnew, Simon Jeffels and Paul Cross I'm struggling.

34 years ago! I feel very old.

There's also David Hirst, Alan Semley (I think) Andy Kiwomya, Mark Ogley, then I'm done.
