That’s ridiculous. Whilst we have a living language that’s constantly shifting in terms of new terms; older and archaic words are still going to be widely used by people from different generations. Whilst I accept there needs to be a way of holding those accountable for racist, derogatory or any offensive language, in this case, the BBC have once again bottled it and swung the pendulum too far. Hope the lad gets his job back.

He'd have been ok to say bumbags.
What a pathetic world we live in and the BBC does not help. Very soon we'll all be afraid to speak lest we upset anybody and everybody.
I turned off a "comedy" on one of the tv channels last night where every other word was "f.uck". This has crept into broadcasting and is obviously not discouraged. I hate it.
I know language evolves but when it is deliberately offensive it is that that needs removing.
Can I ask why handbags is not allowed.

I’m confused. Genuinely. If this story is being accurately reported which is by no means certain. Who is offended and why. What is wrong with the term. I genuinely don’t know what’s wrong with it.

Explaining their decision, the BBC said the phrase "handbags" was not in line with their standards.

Can you tell us what your standards are then please BBC

Read the report and just based on that reading the BBC is populated by a set of 'scumbags' who don't meet my expectations.

Handbags is a great term to use and our own iFollow team should use it.

What an utter missapropriation of the licence fee. They won'y confront this government for the 5hit shower they're prevailing over yet they repremand a reporter over nonscence like this.

I blame the players. They should get stuck in like for example, Dave McKay et al. I don’t know what they’d call it in this day and age,,,,,, but it wouldn’t be handbags!

I haven't seen a gilt edged source on this yet so not sure if this is the full story.
If it is then it's utterly ridiculous and those involved need to hang their heads because they've handed the knuckle draggers an open net.
