I'm not justifying anything, if the Police didn't act then they should be held accountable, simple.
The original point I was making was just really regarding the overtime. Fair enough, the term overtime might mean any time worked over normal hours, or instead of. My point was just covering the misconception that Police get paid extra for football.

So really football hooligans are saving south Yorkshire police money because normally the would be paying their officers 40 hours a week but because of football hooligans they pay 35 hours per week with the football club funding the missing 5 hours.

When officers have their weekly leave cancelled, they would get the hours back in lieu. Which probably does benefit SYP as they don't have to pay another officer to cover when they take their hours back.

That is overtime though. They are getting a day off for going to the football. They aren't getting paid over their hours but they are getting days off for it

I'm not disputing that, it's the idea that they're all rolling in cash because of the all the matches they work. I'd say 99% of them would rather have their Saturday off instead of taking 5 hours off in the middle of a week in a years time. I suppose this has strayed from the original point of the thread now.

I have lost faith with reporting on the BBC. At one time you would have taken it as the truth, now I am skeptical about anything they say.
