No excuses with the score. But watch the player impede Williams as he tried to chase the scorer down. Definite foul.
I saw that but you never get those - and he’d lost the man by that point regardless. He’d got the run on him, he’d never have got to him
Very limited footballer who unfortunately isn't at the level required and doesn't offer enough. The fact were in a position that he's a regular starter says it all about the standard of our squad, wouldn't get anywhere near any other championship team. Question marks have to be asked as to why he's preferred over better players sat on the bench.
I'm not sure it does say anything about the squad as like you say he's poorer than others who sit warming the bench.
League Two at best. I’ve watched him closely from the West Stand and he’s just miles out of his depth. I can’t fault his commitment and effort but he needs getting rid of even if we go down.
Agreed. he’d got the run on him. We have to learn those tricks. Like hold on to the shirt. To be able to to keep tabs on the player and not losing sight.
In fairness to him why was he marking Vokes for that first goal? I know Stoke are a tall side but for me Vokes was the biggest threat aerially in that Stoke side & Williams certainly isn’t our best aerially
Looked like William's was trying to mark a man but lost him for the 1st two corners which lead to conceding.
He was at the fault for the first goal by allowing a free header with his pathetic attempt to jump to challenge for the ball. The second goal was the fault of Andersen, but he wasn't close enough to the scorer to block a tap in. The third goal again his fault not concentrating and losing his man for an easy goal. In one way or another he was involved in the first three we conceded. Thankfully he wasn't on the pitch for the 4th.
Simple easy asessment if Williams...just watch how many of our opposition constantly target his side of the pitch.. If they kno it from the word go why do we persist in him being first choice...cant fault the lads commitment but he's just not at this level...bt one man aint a team ...
Look at the way the players set up. They stand in set positions then just try and track the nearest player. He did let him get away far too easy though - notice most other teams have hands all over players to stop runs etc - watch the highlights every stoke player gets a free run on the defender except for the one Mowatt is trying to stop for the first goal. The third goal we do try to get more hands on which is why Solbauer can't get past the blocker Williams spotted it but there's no way he can get around. He would have been better just left on the post. Also think Chaplin could have done better he took up a position no where near anyone and then followed a run of a stoke player outside the area which created the space for the Stoke player to have a free shot when he was stood in that exact spot a couple of seconds before.
Solbauer was old manned for the third and took out too easily but when the ball was struck they had a bloke offside in front of Walton who made a play for the ball.
I know it seems old school these days but putting a man on each post would have prevented two goals yesterday.
The ref also should have given a foul for a blatant push on Solbauer that lead to the corner being given which they scored from. He does struggle with physical players up against him at the moment - just needs to learn some more dark arts himself.
He’s had a couple of decent games recently, but looked back to his usual self against Stoke. I’ve said it a few times, he reminds me of George Smith. Young, blonde haired full-back with absolutely zero positional sense or awareness, and struggles with the ball at his feet. Loads of fans like him (like they did Smith) because he gets ‘stuck in’.
This in spades. Exactly what I was saying Saturday. No coincidence that Smith is playing in the lower leagues now. Both try really hard and like a tackle but that doesn’t make you good enough for League football.
